New Strains

Well this year I crossed 4 plants with a male Blackberry plant.

First plant I crossed was a Purple Urkel,

The second was a Maui.

The Third was a plant we already crossed between a "blueberry" and a "northern lights" which we named "Blue Light Special".

The forth I had a female Blackberry that was crossed with a "paradise peach" that I pollinated again. Which should produce me a F2 or is it a PH2 seed?

I have enough pollen to cross about 3- 4 more times with each plant which will take me a couple years I am thinking to get a stable cross. No matter what these crosses should produce some interesting results.

Cant wait until I get to start tasting and naming them. :) :peacetwo:

Now I may be wrong on this which I hope I am not...But...It is my understanding that in order for me to get a stable cross I am going to have to take the seeds that each plant produces I will shot gun them.. get my strongest females out of the batch grow them and once they start budding to pollinate with the same male that I originally used to make the cross. I will have to repeat this process several times b4 I get a plant to quit producing but maybe one seed per plant if that. If I am wrong on this or explained wrong.. I hope some one with more experience than I do on this subject will chime in. :peacetwo:

i have been doing some research as well, because the crossing of strains fascinates me, and i hope one day i will make and stabilize a strain of my own also, but till then do you have pics of the male-female pairs?

Also i believe u stabilize a strain by doing as frankenstein said already, by crossing the male and female to make F1 seeds, then u gather the phenotypes from the F1 females carrying the traits u seek and then cross them with the original male which produces ur more stabilized F2 seeds which should carry more of the growing traits of the father plant now, correct me if im wrong.......

I will post pics tonight... I have to use my kid's camera.. I have already cut down my males they were popping the flowers hard core and I seen that my plants took to the crossing. Especially my purple urkel, it took extremely well. it was sitting right next to the male though. My female Blackberry is already 10 ft tall with no signs of slowdown. I had to tie down the top and brought her back down to about 7 ft maybe 8ft. because she was already to the bottom of my house's roof. My Maui is a good 8 ft. tall maybe 9 but an absolute beast of a bush. I had it about 5 ft away from the female blackberry and they have already grown into each other. I pray they stop growing upwards here shortly :peacetwo:
