This little guy popped up yesterday, had a hard time getting out of shell, should I b worried about the first leaves being yellow of think that’s just from fighting to get free?

Awesome thank u, those first two real leaves started coming in on the first day, which seems fast to me, but I am still very inexperienced , I run dwc setup, do I wait till I see roots coming out of the rock wool before putting it in the basket? Or should I now

One thing I’m unsure of is top watering till the roots hit the water, I’ve never done it before, and looking back I don’t know how and plants made it past that point in my grows, not that there has been many, but anyway, how much and how often do I need to top water... I always just wet the wool and stick the seed in and put it in the basket and let it go, ahhh ignorance is bliss:Rasta:

I have never used rock wool cubes before but from what I’ve seen others do, they place there rock wool in starter setups then transfer to the net pot or I’ve seen others go straight in the net pot with the hydroton. Just make sure to bring the water up to the bottom of the net pots so it bubbles up.

Just make sure the water is at the bottom of the net pots and your aerating the water so it bubbles up and you’ll be good. Again I’ve never used any kind of starter, I just place my germinated seedling right in the net pot (carefully) and do as described above. Roots grow quickly in DWC... if it does get dry just give it a splash of water through the top but that is rarely needed.

Those first sets of leaves are called cotyledons and it is normal for those to discolor or die off. Those are just there to help push the seed open, the top first set of true leaves looks good so your fine :thumb:
They also are the storehouse of the nutrients the plant will need to grow the root and start to push out the true leaves. Once the plant is able to photosynthesize with the true leaves and move moisture and nutrients from the roots to the leaves and back to the roots the cotyledons are no longer needed and the turning yellow starts. I always leave them on for as long as possible which means till they fall off on their own. ;)

Yours are yellow because they just popped out of the seed and well, it was dark inside of it. Think of white asparagus and how it’s grown covered in darkness so it doesn’t turn green in the light. Now that the leaves are actually able to catch the light and start photosynthesis, they turn green. This is why it has already improved according to your follow up post.

Then, as others have stated, they may yellow and die because the plant is needing more nutrition than they are receiving. The plant will began to cannibalize itself, giving you an indication you need to start feeding. I have plants that are a month old with the cotyledons still very green and healthy.

Looks like a nice selection, wedding cake is one of my favorite strains... tastes unbelievably good. I got some wedding cake seeds but it’ll be awhile before I get around to growing them... hard to see the natural color of the seedlings under purple light but it looks healthy:thumb:
