Colo. - County Commissioners make a hot topic decision Thursday on how to handle Medical Marijuana land use. The biggest fear for Medical Marijuana distributors was that County Commissioners would pass a Moratorium, banning all dispensaries.
They did their best to convince commissioners that was not the best option. "To know the difference between a real patient and what's going on medically, and what's going on underground," said one El Paso County grower.
There were 3 options for Medical Marijuana land use. The first was a Moratorium that would put an end to all dispensaries in unincorporated El Paso County. The second was to do nothing at all. County Commissioners met in the middle by putting some new regulations in place.
"We've only got what we think is a few different dispensaries here within the unincorporated areas of the county, but that could change very quickly within the next couple of months if there are no regulations in place," said County Commissioner Sallie Clark.
One of the regulations would prohibit a dispensary within 500 feet of a residential area, school, religious establishment or public park. "We're not objecting to any additional input at this point, but we want something in place that's reasonable right now," said Commissioner Clark. The new regulations are temporary and will be in effect for 6 months.
