Connecticut is expanding the number of medical marijuana dispensaries as the number of registered patients continues to increase.
The State Department of Consumer Protection is seeking applications for up to three new dispensaries.
A Department spokeswoman says the number of registered patients now totals more than 4 thousand, more than double the number when the program started last fall. Currently the state has six dispensaries and four medical marijuana production facilities.
Officials say there's a particular need for new dispensaries in Fairfield and New Haven Counties.
The deadline for submitting applications is September 18, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.
