New City Grower 3.5 - Our Perpetual Grow - Continued

you can never be too late on a perpetual grow as something new is always starting
for me about every 3 weeks theres a new bean to pop

is it even possible to be late to a perpetual grow? I'll catch up, and based on the first five pages, learn a thing or two. :thumb:

BERRY KUSH (Auto)

Not really much to say about this one. It's a definite couch-lock strain, shouldn't have tried it for a wake-n-bake. It didn't last too long though which is a good thing right about now. It smells like grape jelly but taste more like blackberry; weird huh. I did catch a hint of a Kush high which might become more relevant after a good cure. For now I give it a 4.

HELP

NORTHERN LIGHTS X BIG BUD (Auto) Day 88 under 18/6

I haven't received any feedback about the idea I had yet:

So in retrospect an easy way to keep a strain of autos going would be to let it over-ripen & self-pollinate for survival (hermie). Just leave it in your Veg Tent (18/6) from start to finish where it won't effect anything else. I want to hear plenty of feedback and input on this idea. We may have solved the only dilemma I have with autos; The once it's done it's done thing.

This is the Auto I'm ready to try it on. Yes, No, Maybe, Pros, Cons... Come on folks, help me out here.

Yes - but won't you develop seeds that are more prone to being hermies?

Thanxx for the input Pita. I was under the impression that a late self-pollination isn't a trait just a plants way of self-preservation, I may be wrong.

I could well be wrong, too. You have more (recent) experience than I. Still, it would make an interesting experiment, if nothing else. :high-five:

If a plant hermies during early flower or before end of life it is considered to be a genetic issue and no... you would not want to use the beans from that plant cause more than likely it will carry the same gene... If a plant hermies due to outside factors...ie. light leaks etc.... the beans are probably stable and will be fem....
Broke Ass I have not read on here.... to my memory.... where anyone has tried such a thing so as usual you are the pioneer my friend... Let er' rip tator chip.......:circle-of-love:

anything that hermies early the seeds will hermie the same time
if its late after optimum harvest then it would be ok because it shouldn't hermie till
the same time by which time you would have harvested it
also theres some auto strains that they sell reg seeds for it you could always buy a couple of those
and cs if you get a female a couple branches or a male and female back cross

I think I'm a go for it.

Hey BAR, Hope all is well in your world. I have a question for you and your very knowledgeable friends here. As I am running low on smoke I would like to start flowering a couple ladies early so I have fresh smoke before the others will be ready in the fall. This is an outside grow but I can carry two plants in and keep them in the dark so they start to flower but carrying them out for sun every day. They are about 2 foot tall now. My question is how long do I have to keep bringing them in so they dont get to much light? I read that at some point of flowering there is no stopping them and over 12 hours of light wont turn them back to vegetative stage once they get so far into flowering. Im wondering how many weeks of bringing them in it will take to make the flowering irreversible. If anyone has any info on this I would appreciate it. Thanks guys.

I'm not sure Jetboy. I've heard the same thing but let one of the more experienced members clear that up.

BAR, I think you're going to have to test this out on your own. You've never accepted conventional wisdom anyway, have you? Why start now? Let the experiment begin!

I would strongly recommend keeping up the light deprivation until harvest. Changing back to longer days / shorter nights can cause your plants to reveg. . It could also stress them enough to cause hermie flowers. If you look back at BAR's journal, you can see revegging does not take very long to kick in. Hope this helps and your grow turns out great!

I think I'm a go for it.

Project auto seeds should be a great experiment. Dennise and Chronic are spot on about not passing on hermie tendencies. I think you might have better luck and get more seeds if you used the pollen from the auto you run overlong in flower to pollinate a branch on a different auto that was only a few weeks after flowers have started to show. I never used autos, but I made seeds for outdoor grows a few times. I got a lot more healthy, fully developed seeds when I pollinated early in flowering. It will be cool if you can grow your own auto seeds.

@jetboy-
I've not heard you can flower then move back to long photoperiods. I'm skeptical, but no direct experience. I have seen plenty of stress from changing light schedules. My bet is you will muck their flowering, get weird leaves, and end up re-vegging and/or hermies. If you do it, let us know.

Ok everyone, first things first.
The Auto Seeds experiment is a go and while we're talking beans, I scored some Chocolate seeds from a bag of that old school chocolate a friend and I were smoking on the way back from the airport.

The Afghan Kush Clone was planted today. I'm loving this cloner.

How long did it take in the cloner to get those roots?
