Need help figuring out stunted growth!

Hello folks. This is my first post on the forum and I am excited that I am finally going to ask, get answersa and contribute in my own way.

I am in no way a newbie in horticulture but again no way an expert. I have finished about 6 full grows well documented but I am having an issue with this last grow/test that I am conducting and I need your input. I will try to describe the situation as proper as I can. Since this is my first post I cannot upload pictures yet, sorry!!!

The grow room is 1m2 roughly 3'x3'. White reflective ceramic walls, Black Matte ceramic floor.

1x 400w MH grow lamp at 18/6

1x 420m2/min exhaust fan to the outside world

1x oscillating 10" fan Funning as low as I can possible get right now

All pots are 15lt (appx3.5 gallon) black rectangular pots in trays

Medium is BioBizz Coco mix. PPM was nearly 0 when first use.

So on to the strains:

Last time I was in Ams I bought two strains one is the Fem Auto White haze and the other Fem Auto White Diesel haze. Wanted to try out autos for the first time.

I first put the 2 seeds in room temp water over night (seperate glasses) they both sunk.

Then planted them in jiffy. T5 CFL in a incubator / mini-greenhouse They both sprouted nice with no problems. in 2 days.

Next planted the jiffy into their grow medium. As stated above.

Watered with plain water (no nutes yet) twice upto date with little run off.

it is now day 17 of the grow and both plants are reacting differently. They both look very healthy. no discoloration no bad leaves nothing seems to be wrong in general but the White haze is growing and the white diesel seems to be stunted.

White haze at 3 1/4" tall 3"x3" and growing daily. 2. set of leaves growing in nice.
white diesel haze at 2 1/4" tall 3"x3" and been there for the past 6-7 days just the same. 2. set of leaves just barely visible.

as per the breeder of these strains the diesel is the one that should grow faster but it seems stunted. Please keep in mind that all conditions and everything are exactly the same on both plants. I would love your feedback on why this might be happening.

Also I am recording a journal as I have not seen any for these strains but since I cannot post pictures yet I am waiting for the 50 post limit to start the journal online.

:Namaste: to all my fellow growers for your time and input.

Thanks for the heads up Antics!
I thought I would need 50 posts before I could upload photos.

But here are the girls as of point.

As I have stated before they look healthy to me and they are under the exact same conditions. But the Feminized White Haze Auto keeps growing while the Feminized White Diesel Haze Auto has been exactly the same for the past 5-6 days. I take measurments every day and record all in my grow spreadsheet.

Any advise input is appreciated. Thanks

You only need 50 posts to send a PM. Otherwise, you're free to enjoy the website and forums like everyone else :thumb:

Have you recently transplanted?
Have you dug into the soil at all for any reasons that may have damaged roots?
Were there any other injuries to the plant?
How is your watering schedule? Over watering could cause slowed growth as well.

These are the first things that pop in my head.

Its good to know that I can post pictures. I guess I can start on my journal sooner than I thought. Thanks again!!

to answer your questions.
Transplanted to the large pots 11 days ago. They were in the jiffy starters so just picked them up not seeing the roots and put them in the pots.
No never dug in for any reason.
No injury happened while transplant or after.
I have only watered twice. Once every 6-7 days. The pots are 15 liter pots so it holds quite a bit of water. And the coco peat holds good water and air so I believe I did not over water.

I did bring them under the MH once they were in their pots but the light is about 2 feet away from the girls. The room is at a constant 79-80F. These are all what stumbles me both plants have gone thru the exact same procedures and are under the same conditions. This is a phenomenon that I cannot understand.

look healthy enough. they might be busy growing roots. 15 litres is a pretty big pot for seedlings. Some folks like to pot them up a couple times to let the roots fill the pots a bit more on the way up. I go from 1 inch pots to 16 oz beer cups and then when they are rooted nicely in the solos, move them on to their buckets (10 liter hempies) where they will live. I know others have great success just putting a seed in a 5 gallon bucket too though, so lots of ways to look at that. just a thought. hope they take off for you soon. :)

Thanks for the input Ravyn!! I am hoping that the WDH is just rooting.

In my grows I have gradually gone up with pots (size) but I have no room outside my home (I live in a high rise) so I had to do everything inside. I realized that I was hurting my plants more by doing this, so I opted to just take them from their greenhouse directly to the 15lt pots. Created less stress than changing them 2-3 times with the conditions I had. I have had the same success in both methods so I just kept on doing this.
It just seems odd that both girls are reacting different to the exact same enviroment.

Some would assume all strains are the same !

Well the sad truth is that they are not ;)

What you are experiencing is growth rate between two different strains & that is all, i'm not going to batter a eye lid over the matter as all looks fine :Namaste:

Alright, here's my take on things. I agree that they look healthy. No problems at all, which is great. And as Fuzzy has stated, different strains grow differently. And as you said, the strain that should usually grow faster, is growing slower.

Think of strains like a families of people, and think of multiple plants of the same strain from different seeds as siblings, these are known as phenotypes. Clones would be considered genotypes, which can be likened to identical twins in a family. Anyways.. siblings all grow at different rates, just the same way different phenotypes do.

Now.. After going over everything, and comparing your plants to some that I have grown, and going over your information, it looks like the stunted growth is likely due to no nutrients. Right now they're growing GREAT, but they only have their own stored nutrients available to use, as coco is a neutral growing medium and contains no nutrients. So those little roots are only absorbing water from the coco right now.

I personally think you need to start feeding some nutrients appropriate doses for their age, and that should make those girls explode with growth.

And I'm not subbed at your journal as well.

Thanks for the info Antics.

I have always done it this way not because I am right but simply because I was always afraid of hurting the girls at their pre age.

There is always contradicting info on the web and it just makes me uncomfortable, thats why I am here!!! Hear it from experience directly and its much better.

Technically you are correct the coco has almost nothing. The PPM at first use was just about 0 and the jiffy cubes can only house so much nutrients. So I will take up your advise and start on the nutes tonight when I get back from work. By the way this also shows that the BioBizz Coco is not that great of quality, I used pure water when I ran the test and per their statement the ppm should have been 0 but then again 26 ppm is not all that bad!!!

Well I guess I will continue all this conversation at the journal!!! I am posting the link here also al my signature does not seem to be showing up. Gotta check whats up with that!!!

BlinKey's Indoor Coco Mix Fem White Diesel Haze Auto Grow Journal -2014 :Namaste:

Well folks 24 hours ago I gave the girls their first cocktail of Micro grow bloom and lowered the light to 18".

And they both loved them!!!!!! The White Haze Auto has started growing again, not much but cm wise but about 10% taller and about 17% in width so mass wise thats great improvement.

As I had stated earlier I use biobizz coco mix and the ppm is never 0 on these. I dont start nutes this early in a plants lifecycle but I guess the coco mix is more pure then I had expected:bravo:

thanks folk for all your support advise and help!!!

If I didn't have other things to do I could sit and watch my plant for a couple hours, with breaks for eating, bathroom, and taking the dog out of course. It's just calming and relaxing sitting there, even with the problems I'm experiencing now, it's like while I'm in the grow, nothing else matters at that moment. It's total peace and absolute bliss.

I really feel ya on that. My first grow EVER was a row of tomatoes and two rows of herbs back in my corner of Alabama. We had a tornado and the worst feeling I had was when I saw my little garden destroyed:rollingeyes:

I knew I loved horticulture the moment the seeds popped out.. Just last night me and the wife had a discussion, she quoted that when I talk about cultivation my eyes sparkle and I am so focused :) I replied by saying that if we ever move to Amsterdam I will quit my life profession and become a professional grower :yahoo: and I wasn't joking!!!

Well you might not have to move... depending where you are, you may see it legalized sooner than later. The news of its medical uses is spreading like wildfire thanks to the internet, and more and more people are reading these articles and saying to themselves "Well wtf? This should be legal!"

And that's all we need. I'd love a career in horticulture myself. It'd be the most relaxing profession I've ever had.

Oh god I just wish!!! Being an activist can land you in jail here, :adore: have to worship the current system or you will land in jail!!!!

I have a paid proxy server in Noord Amsterdam just to get on this site and yet I am in so called Europe. But then again I do what I can hush hush and in silence. Maybe one day there will enough of us to voice our thoughts, start a debate.
