Just clip the ones touching the substrate. Move the ones covering new shoots to the side so those tender new shoots get some light as well. The leaves are factories, producing what the plant needs to grow from the available light, nutrients, and water. The more you have, the faster the plant will grow.

Yup and yup.
Looking through, I see where folks have dang near stripped the plant down aside from the cola itself. I guess they are doing that as it gets close to finishing?

Yes, it's called lollypopping. I'm not a fan of it. I prefer removing just enough so the light can reach all the budsites, and that air can move through the canopy. The leaves feed the buds as the plant nears harvest.
