Naval jelly for pH down

As others I search for a more wallet friendly way to adjust ph. Citric acid was working fine but it wears off quickly having to adjust it at least 2 times a day. I bought some naval jelly and mixed a jigger of it in a gallon of water. However when I put in a teaspoon full of NJ there was no change at all in ph. Just how much naval jelly does one need to effect change and what is the dilution used by others?

Er like that stuff is used to remove rust from metal !


A 1 liter bottle of either PH up/down is about £10 to £15 perhaps $20 etc it will last a fair amount of time i would suspect in less you have big water tank/res to play with.

I use apple cider vinegar to bring the ph down and baking soda to bring it up

Yes I've used both types of vinegar and baking soda but I wanted a ph down that has some longevity instead of me having to check it 2-3 times a day.

Naval jelly is phosphoric acid in a paste. pH down from the hydro store is phosphoric acid diluted in water. I'm not sure the concentrations, but I bet you're not really gaining an advantage over standard hydroponic pH down solution.
