Mystery Seed's 400W LED Grow Journal - ScrOG - 2'x2'x5' Tent

If they only have pollen sacs in a few spots, they may have hermied. If you can afford to inspect all plants closely daily, you may be able to snip off any sacks and see if they are indeed males or if they hermied. If they hermied you may get lucky and only have male parts here and there. But if the pollen sacs open and pollinate your other plants, then your plants will have seeds. So it really depends. If you want to play it safe, pull the plants that show male parts and call it a day. If you have the time to spend daily, you could try snipping.

Thanks, JuanCarlos. I do have daily free time, so I may put them in my smaller grow cabinet, flip them to flower, and see what appears.

If you have a separate cabinet that you can put them in that would be a great option. You would just need to make sure not to cross contaminate if you are working in one cabinet and then another. That's if you have a pollen sac open on you.

Also, great piece on the High Brix man, I really appreciate that. +rep to you man.

Day 64 Update - The slow switch to flower

Day 64

The sad news first... I lost Mystery #1 and #2 in a tragic turn of sex. Bastards!

The good news... Four plants remain and they're all female!

I removed the male Mystery plants from my tent and put them in a separate grow box (which I'll include photos of soon) to grow for a few more days under 12/12 light to be absolutely sure they are male. That leaves more room for the other 4 plants which still seem to crowd the space.

The slow switch from 18/6 to 12/12 is being made. Each day I decrease lights-on by an hour (or increase dark by an hour). Today the lights are on 15 hours and off for 9 hours. Then it's 14/10, 13/11, and finally 12/12. I'm gradually switching to flowering to avoid stunting the growth of my two Bubbalicious Autos. With luck, I'll harvest the Bubby's within the next month and set up the SCROG to help support and spread out the buds of the two Papaya's.

In an attempt to help my Bubby's finish strong, I added a couple of CFL's to supplement the 400w LED.

Anyway, the photos:

That's all for now. Have a great day! :Namaste:

Im sorry to hear of the loss of the two males. Its always the sex that twists things up, isnt it?

Your remaining plants look divine. How much longer do you think the autos have? By the bud shots, they are looking tasty. Next time could you include a scratch n sniff in your update, please? :)

Your payaya's look a good deal like my THC Bomb.

Very nice update.

Thanks, Sorenna. I will keep the scratch and sniff idea in mind for my next update. If it's any consolation, my roommates have been commenting on how pleasant the house smells.

If you're THC Bomb auto is looking like my Papayas, then I'm jealous because my autos look like bonsai trees. They are currently on overturned plastic gallon pots to bring them up to the level of the Papayas. As for time left on the Bubbalicious buds, I'm not 100% sure. I'm guessing about 3-weeks, but I'll push it as far as I can. The Papayas are transitioning to flower and will probably block out a majority of the light in 2-weeks, so I have to keep that in mind.

Next time, I'm only growing two plants in my tiny tent, and I'll probably flower them sooner to avoid the overcrowding that I'm already witnessing.

Hope all is going well with your grow. I'm headed there next. :Namaste:

I was wondering how you got all those plants to be the exact same height at the same time. Now I know..overturned plastic pots. lol They dont look like bonsai trees in the photos, btw. I was really referring to the bushiness and overall shape of them. My Bomb is only 11" tall, but what she lacks in height, she makes up for in volume. She is fat. lol

My grow is going pretty well. A few bumps in the road, but not nearly as many as I expected with my black thumb!

hey I was looking at your pot are those geopots and if so are they the ones with Velcro sides for transplanting by the way your plant are looking good

Thanks for the kudos, DB. The two Bubbalicious autos are in regular (non-transplant) 2-gallon Geo Pots, while the Papayas are in regular 3-gallon fabric pots from GroPro. Next grow, I plan to use two 7-gallon GroPro pots because Doc Bud's HB instructions call for that size... though I may adjust the pot size if they prove too big for my tiny tent.

looking good man those plants may be small but im sure your get some of the best pot of your life, nothing like fresh and correctly cured but that you put hours into. cant wait to see the final product man :Namaste:

Grow Cabinet

Look what I found on the curb last week! Too be fair, it was just the cabinet without the bells and whistles (i.e. lights and fans), but "hey" it's a perfect grow cabinet.

The outside.
IMG_67424.JPG

The inside. The plant is one of the male mystery plants that I exiled. The current light is a 138w LED, and I rigged a 12v computer fan to a couple of yogurt containers filled with dryer sheets for a fan/filter setup.

The exile. Soon he'll become part of my morning breakfast smoothie.
IMG_67382.JPG

The electronics. Since there is a lot of space above, I will probably build a platform about 16" up and put clones underneath with a couple of CFLs. That will come later.

Goodnight and good luck.

Sorry to hear about the two plants turning male on you. Otherwise the ladies look awesome! As far as growing in a 7gal container, just keep in mind that the bigger the container the larger your plant becomes. It's been tough work keeping my lady to a manageable size. I have her in a 7gsl container and I've had to keep the light pretty close to keep her from reaching 4+ ft tall. Right now she's over 3ft tall.

Noted. I plan to flower my next batch early to keep them shorter... that and lots of training.

Day 67 Update - Last day of Veg

Day 67 - Last day of Veg

The slow switch from 18/6 to 12/12 is complete. Papaya #1 and #2 have kept up their vigorous grow and continue to worry me that I didn't make the switch soon enough. The buds of Bubbalicious #1 and #3 are really starting to fill-in and they seem to love the added light from the 26-watt and 32-watt CFLs.

The vitals:
Light height: 14"-18"
Temp: 62-74'F
RH: 50-76%
Soil temp: 58-67.8'F

After a few days in flower, I'll come back through and take off any lower growth that doesn't look promising. As for nutes, I plan to keep adding the FloraNova Grow 7-4-10 one-part nutrient solution at 1/2 strength. Since I plan to use Doc Bud's HB Kit next grow, I'm hesitant to buy any more nutes that I only plan to use for one grow. Maybe I'll use some of Doc's kit to finish off this grow so I can get the hang of it before I go full High Brix.

Anyway, the good stuff:

How exciting to leave the veg phase behind and move on to the next one. Your plants look really good. I can see frostiness on your autos. Really nice grow.

Day 68 Update - Day 1 of Flowering

Day 68 - Flowering Day 1

So, my tent went through it's first 12-hour dark cycle last night and all is well on the closet front. Nothing much has happened, but I'll post a few photos since I uploaded them to describe an issue to Duggan.

That Papaya #1 on the right has had a slight issue with burnt tips from the beginning, though it may be caused by light burn since it responds well to the raising of the LEDs. I left my tent in the care of a roommate for two weeks and when I returned the plants had grown to about 6" from the light. I raised the light to 14" and the condition of the leaf tips have improved, and I have only been feeding the FloraNova 7-4-10 Grow nutrients at 1/2 strength every third watering. That said, I'd rather not screw up my first grow by over-feeding the soil. I'll give them just water for the next round or two and see what happens. Although I'm not High Brix yet, I'd like to treat this grow as if I were.

Here are a few close up photos of the leaf tips for reference:

Your plants are looking really good man and I feel like your plants would probably do good with some organic nutes, as its harder to over feed with organics. So if you have some high brix supplements then i would just use them. And just one thing i can tell from your pictures is that it looks like you are over feeding a little, the burnt tips on your plants are a classic sign of that. What nutes are you using and what soil are you using again?

Pretty positive the burnt tips were caused by light burn as the LEDs were 6" away from my plants when I returned from a 2-week vacation. I'm using FoxFarm Happy Frog soil and FloraNova Grow 7-4-10 nutrients at 1/2 strength every third watering. I plan to lay off the nutes with Papaya #1 for a few waterings to see how things go, but I feel it's just a very light sensitive plant... probably a ginger. I will continue to use the FloraNova Grow for the rest of the plants and plan to supplement it with light drenches of Tea, Energy, and Transplant from Doc's Kit. For now, I'm just sitting back and waiting for the buds to pop. Thanks for your concern, Arellanobrian.
