Welcome to my first grow journal. I look forward to sharing with and learning from this wonderful community.
I live, work, and play in Colorado. About a month ago, I started work at a retail grow operation trimming buds and performing odd jobs. With my new job and 420-friendly roommates, no time seemed better than now to start a mini-garden in my closet. The plan is to veg a handful of plants with the intent to transplant half of the plants to a friend's outdoor garden near Cortez. The rest I plan to flower in my closet under a 400w LED light using Low-Stress-Training and a ScrOG.
Here is my set-up:
My current set-up:
I bought my seeds which arrived hassle-free within 14-days of ordering and came with 10 "freebie" mystery seeds.
{Day 1} On March 25th, I soaked 3 Bubbalicious autoflower seeds, 4 Papaya feminized seeds, and 5 Mystery seeds for about 4 hours then placed them in Rapid Rooters inside a mini-greenhouse seed starter to germinate . Of those, all but 3 Mystery seeds sprouted. I transplanted the sprouts into various containers sized 1/4 to 1-Gallon plastic pots of Happy Frog soil. Some plants went into a window sill, while the rest went into my homemade grow box made from an Omaha Steak cooler lined with tinfoil. It had two 30-watt CFLs for light and a small fan for air circulation. I'm not proud of this first grow box, but the plants in it did better than those left alone in the windowsill.
A baby seedling a few days after sprouting (March 29th, 2015):
{Day 9} Inside my old, homemade grow box (April 2nd, 2015):
{Day 17} Plants doing well under CFL lights (April 10th, 2015):
On April 10th, my Mars Hydro II 400w LED grow light arrived in the mail (Mars Hydro LED - the Best Solutions for Horticulture and Indoor Plants). In my excitement, I decided to put 4 of the plants (two Bubbalicious and two Papaya) into their final containers and placed them about 20" under the 400w LED light on a 18/6 schedule. My big mistake here was over-watering the plants as soon as I transplanted them into bigger pots. By the next day, I was seeing signs of over-watering (firm leaves bend downward and soil still damp on the surface).
The same day, I finished my new stealth grow box made from an old speaker. I placed a few of the window plants into the box after moving the other plants to my closet under the 400w LED.
{Day 17} Plants after transplanting into final pots, placing under LED light, and accidental over-watering. That's a lot of stress all at once. The two Papaya plants are in the bigger smart pots, and the two Bubbalicious plants are in the smaller smart pots:
{Day 17} Some close-ups... because we all love watching our babies grow:
{Day 17} Inside my new homemade, stealth grow box made from an old speaker.
{Day 21} One of the over-watered plants at its worst. Notice the leaves curling downward? The plants are all slowly recovering as the soil dries out. (April 13th, 2015):
{Day 23} Inside my new grow tent from Mars Hydro. (April 15th, 2015):
{Day 23} A few more photos of my recovering plants. (April 15th, 2015):
{Day 23} Inside my stealth, speaker grow box with new 135w LED grow light.
That pretty much wraps up my first grow journal entry. In hindsight, I learned about the dangers of over-watering and sudden changes in environment. Even with a few bumps in the road, the plants are still healthy and growing as you'd expect something called "weed" to grow.
In the past few weeks, a lot of things have happened and/or changed. To recap, 9 seeds sprouted (3 Bubbalicious autoflower, 4 Papaya feminized, and 2 Mystery). In the grow tent are 2 Papaya plants in 3-gallon smart pots and 2 Bubbalicious plants in a gallon and a 2-gallon smart pot respectively. In the stealth grow box, I currently have 1 Bubbalicious, 2 Papaya, and 2 Mystery plants.
I'll try to update in the next week or sooner if something major happens. Until then, keep your feet on the ground and your mind in the clouds.
One love,
