My water pH is 7 and ppm 120

I was told by my local nursery that I don’t have to worry about our waters ph bc it’s already at a 7 as well as our PPM it’s at 120. Should I still be testing the water after I add nutes, I use FF big grow and big bloom rn. My plants look good but I feel like they can look a whole lot better, what else can I do.

No matter WHO tells you WHAT about growing ... confirm it.
Test it. Be skeptical.

EVERY body is a master grower - just ask em.

If you gonna be growing these plants you need some basic equipment.
Get a good (Blue Labs) Ph pen. Learn how and why to use it.

Follow the label instructions on your fertilizer.

Yes water with pH 7 and 120 ppm is good but what are you adding to your water??

Just follow the label.... if it says pH your water before adding nutrients - pH your water.

If it says the pH should be this after you add nutrients pH your solution.

Nice plants.
If you were growing in a living organic soil then the advice would be good, ph 7 water is great.
But if you're using bottle nutrients , then checking the ph of your feed is important.
Hi Listermeghead, I’m growing in FF happy frog using the same brand of liquid nutes, Big grow and big bloom just between what’s directed. I’m sure I’ll be ordering a ph and ppm reader as I do still need a few items for my first and hopefully perpetual grow :reading420magazine: TY

Hey bobrown14:

The only thing I’ve added to my water is the FF big grow and big bloom liquid nutes but using just a lil less than directed. Unfortunately it does not specify on pH or ppm. I’m also growing in FF Happy Frog soil.

Well, It is not water pH the responsible for major changes in medium pH. In other words, pH dont mean nothing (except for hydroponics)

Water alcalinity and nutrient composition have bigger influence on It. Research "promix pH" on Google. pH has even less influence on soil.

Have a pool stripe to test your water alkalinity, as this one can hit Very hard on medium ph.

If your water is low on alkalinity, you could grow for months without an issue. There are ways tô test medium ph If your want to be sure

I've had it with all the Ph, EC stuff - don't need a meter to read a plant
They look to be in great condition, keep doing what you're doing and leave them alone
Could probably handle more nutes, but that's not necessarily necessary (wot?) ;O)

I got by with a couple of the cheap ph/ppm meters for a while but now that I've upgraded to a Truncheon ec meter and a Hanna Ph pen im much happier. And I agree those plants look pretty happy.
Oh ok, sounds Like I have some reading to do!

If you're growing in soil, the meters and crap aren't necessary. FF Happy Frog is a good quality soil and a water ph of 7 is just fine. Your plants look good, don't get too wound up with testing this and that, if you're growing in soil: hydoponics or coco yes, but not soil. Just keep doing what your doing. Remember they're WEEDS! IMHO, most of the products sold for marijuana grows are more for the grower than the plant! We'll buy anything if someone says it will help quality or yield, regardless of whether it actually does!

Ph is a BIG subject that there has been entire books written about.
Really.
But I insist on the following order when preparing a feed bucket:
  1. Add Cal-Mag
  2. Add N and PK
  3. Add specials (meds, treatments, bloom boosters, kelp ... whatever.
  4. THEN Ph the tank to 5.8 to 6.1 (per the instructions of the medium and nutrient makers)
Takes about an hour to mix a feeding the right way.

PH is critical (as is EC/dissolved solids) in Coco or hydroponic grows, not so much in soil grows. A water PH of 6-7 is fine. Soil has a natural buffering effect. In this case FF Happy Frog is an amended acidic soil mix, so water PH of 7 should be fine, and in most auto grows with FF you don't really need to add much to the soil for the first 60 days. (BTW, I'd kill for water with only 120 ppm dissolved solids, tested mine today and it's currently over 2400 ppm!)
