The Missouri Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman plans to file industrial hemp legislation again in 2018.
State Sen. Brian Munzlinger, R-Williamstown, has said that Missouri "is missing the boat."
Friday is December 1, which is the first day bills can be pre-filed for the 2018 Missouri legislative session.
Munzlinger, who represents 14 counties in northeast and north-central Missouri, will file a bill to allow those licensed by the Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) to "grow, harvest and cultivate" industrial hemp.
During the 2017 session, the Missouri House approved an industrial hemp bill filed by State Rep. Paul Curtman, R-Union, in April on a 126-26 vote.
Munzlinger's version was approved in April by the Senate Agriculture, Food Production and Outdoor Resources Committee 5-1.
However, the bill died in the full Senate in May.
Munzlinger, who's the Senate Majority Caucus Whip, will also file tort reform legislation on Friday.
Brian Munzlinger represents Adair, Chariton, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Linn, Macon, Marion, Pike, Ralls, Randolph, Schuyler, Scotland and Shelby counties.
2018 will be the final year in the Legislature for Munzlinger, who was first elected to the House in 2002.
Missouri's 2018 legislative session begins on Wednesday January 3 at noon in Jefferson City.
