Richmond RCMP's Green Clean team has been really cleaning up marijuana grow
operations in town over the past few weeks.

Since the team began in mid-October, six grow-ops have been dismantled,
including a sophisticated operation in which residents drilled underground
to tap into a hydro source illegally.

"It's extremely dangerous," Const. Peter Thiessen said of the illegal tap.
"It could have started a fire or any number of things."

Because it was an industrial area, Thiessen said, there was no immediate
danger to any residential neighbours.

Checking B.C. Hydro meters is a method used to discover grow operations
because they use substantially more power than a regular household, Thiessen
said.

A total of 4,700 plants was discovered at the six locations, including the
7400-block of Belair Drive, 10800-block of Hollymount Drive, 4600-block of
No. 6 Road, 6700-block of Graybar Road and 8900-block Beckwith Road.
