Mottled Leaf Appearance

I dropped a seed direct to soul on 4.20. It popped a few days later with a mottled type necroses or sclerosis that I thought was related to getting full light intensity as it went in the tent with full flowering autos. It was put in the tent to get a start on my outdoor, 1 plant grow. It’s still too cold for another couple weeks. Pics from today, 8 days since sprouting… Sprout is a Dos Si that will be going in a greenhouse.

This mottled appearance started with the first single blade, now the new growth is also mottled. The undersides of the leaves do look normal. The soil is clean and is from the same batch was just used for a full grow; nothing unusual was done prep wise. Now I’m thinking its genetics as it started immediately. I have no visible contaminants and the same soil mix was just used. In researching what this might me I came across TMV (tobacco mosaic virus). TMV seems unlikely as it started with first growth.

Debating weather to toss or grow out. I'm limited to 1 outside this year.

Any thoughts as to what this might be? Thanks.

Hello @stinker hope you are well.
If your sure it’s not a virus I’d say it looks like the girls I had mites on.
That would be a place start.
Scope under leaves and you will know for sure. Tiny nightmares they are.

Hi Bill, I scoped the leaves, no bugs or poop to be seen. I don't know how to rule out a virus, It hasn't shown anywhere but on this sprout. Thanks

Variegated weed! Haha while its probably not the case ive heard that it's a possible mutation and that it usually grows out as the plant matures. Id keep troubleshooting it though. Good luck.

Definitely pretty cool looking... that second pic looks like some of the variegated plants at the greenhouse.

I'd have to say soil myself but you already said it's the same batch. Still pretty cool deformity.

Thanks, I agree it looks pretty cool. I did a little looking into cannabis variegation; it’s not that uncommon. Apparently as Sangmang says, the mutation usually grows out as it matures. I guess if there is enough green for photosynthesis all should be okay. It’s going full term outside and I’m shooting for a big girl. I will be topping and removing 1st nodes soon.

If its soil, I should know soon enough. I started germinating a mixed 4 for the tent today. They will be started the same, soil and all.

I've had this before. Not sure what I did to make it go away except dial in my ph and nutes. I don't think it's a strain thing and I don't think it's that tobacco mosaic virus either as I worried about that with mine and yet it just went away when I got everything in my dirt right.

I had some on this grow as well. It only showed in veg really. Yours turned out really great!

She is a beauty. I still see some variegation. I thought mine might start again in flower. :peace:
