You don't really need a huge lighting setup for four plants, do you?

Personally I'd go with shop lights(fairly cheap considering the price of other lighting systems), just get 2 or 3 fixtures(4 or 6 bulbs), for good healthy mothers and lots of clones, I'd say 2ft in diameter for each plant.
I would also recommend doing your mother plants in dirt, I have mine in hydro right now and she actually grows almost too fast lol, I clip her like 3 times a week. I would also suggest topping rather than lst and supercropping too, but that's just my preference. I like that with dirt there is no noise from pumps. Just food for thought!
Oh and uhh, what strain you working with? If you're sprouting beans you could start tons of seeds and cull the plants with the genetics you least desire, trust me you want your mother plants to be excellent specimens, why flower out a plant that doesn't look as good as some other plants from the same strain?

Thank you crunk. Sounds like a good idea. My mothers are in soil yes. I have a bloom box and want to run all mothers seprate from it so that every time i start a new cycle i can have the next strain/clones vegging in the veg chamber while I flower 9 in the bloom chamber.
I have a Purple Kush mother, a Blue Dream mother, an afghan kush, and a pineapple xpress. have 8 plants in soil from when i first bought my clones. they are budding right now and once i pull them i will be switching over to hydro.
I have never topped before...im a newbie i am still doing my research... any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The easiest way for me to explain topping is you cut the very most top tip of the new growth off(only do this after 3 or 4 nodes growth). The whole point of topping is that you're separating the main stem of the plant. Doing this promotes lots of side branching AND 2 main colas, and the beautiful thing is you can top and potential offshoot top. The point is creating a canopy of buds instead of one big main cola and small fluffy buds at the bottom. I'm sure you can find topping threads somewhere around here if you do a little searching.

Shop lights are fine for host plants. They don't need much. Don't need much in the way of nutes either.
Don't worry, when you start taking clones, you will be topping big time. Taking a clone is in effect, topping. Works out well doesn't it?

I have 2 practice plants @ appx 5" tall under 2, 6500 flourescent bulbs. I have 3 northern skunk just popping. My goal is 2 good plants. This is all in a small closet; plants are appx 3" from light.
At what point do I change the lighting, and for only 2 plants, what (cheap) kind of bulbs and fixtures do I need. I've been checking out the Sunsystem 150 grow hps. Will that be adequate?
I have 2 practice plants @ appx 5" tall under 2, 6500 flourescent bulbs. I have 3 northern skunk just popping. My goal is 2 good plants. This is all in a small closet; plants are appx 3" from light.

Hey guys quick question...if I were to go to soil instead of hydro in my bloom box would more smaller plants allow me to harvest more often? if i veg a batch of 10 or so then flower them and start another batch of clones and get them flowering in two or three weeks would that be worth my time or would i be getting basically nothing in return? Just looking to be able to harvest more often.
If that didnt make any sense Im looking to have maybe 20-25 small plants (1-2ft) flowering, but maybe 2 or 3 different batches, some having been started before others
