Mother or clone to keep as mother plant?

The title pretty much says it all, is it better to have a mother plant from seed than to keep a clone (1st or 2nd generation) as a mother plant. As I understand, the very meaning of a clone is an exact genetic copy, i.e. it shouldn't matter. Anyone has been through this or has a definite answer?

I would agree with what you are saying as its basically the same plant given to right conditions it shouldnt matter
