Mold?

Hi guys,

First of all I have to apologize for letting my grow journal die. I had to leave my house for a few months for work related reasons, and left my wife in charge of the 3 girls in the backyard. I've recently gotten updates from her saying that there are bits of dying plant. Just thought I'd throw this out there for the experts here to see and maybe give any advice.

Plants are on Vancouver Island and they are about 6 weeks away from harvest (telling from the dates they started to show sex, and going by the genetics).

Problem is, it's been raining quite a bit. And I fear that the rain is only going to get worse over the next few weeks.

Anyway, here's a few pictures. They look generally healthy, other that the one shot. My wife says they have showed about 4 or 5 dead spots like this. She's clipped them off at a neighbors advice.

Any thoughts? Thank you all!

So from what I've read this is a communicable disease? So surgical removal well beneath the infection is the best treatment?

I've quickly read a few articles and I can't help but agree that it looks like bud rot.

Thank you for this.

Yes sadly that looks like rot. Not much to do but carefully cut and dispose of the corpses. I had it on an fresh candy auto earlier this summer.

Ive been spraying with Southern Ag fungicide after rain or if overly humid. Its organic, I learned of it from another member, @InTheShed .

So far no signs of rot or any indicators. Only two weeks till harvest so keeping fingers crossed.

Thank you for this. Shed has helped me quite a bit in the past too! Thank you Shed.

Only problem is I can't seem to find a supplier in Canada. Ebay.ca is the only place I've found it and they want $24 for the bottle...and $28 for shipping. Plus it will probably take 3 weeks coming from the states and we need this stuff tomorrow.

:(

Hey @PacificNorthWest im in the same location to you ahd I wish someone gave me this advice.

Harvest it all. It only gets worse ahd worse and worse. I wish I harvested all mine back 4 weeks ago when I first posted. My sativa and one Indica were quite filled out in the colas. I was spending 1 to 2 hours a day trying to cut out this and then spray h202. It would work a bit. I even build a shelter for them before the first rain.

Anyways in the end I got probably 1/2 of my crop taken by it over 3 to 4 weeks.

It won't go away.

One thing I noticed is that I think I over watered my plants then we had that massive 7 days of rain about 3 weeks ago and it just kept getting worse. I realized yesterday how bad it was when I pretty much had to throw the entire indica out. If I had harvested 3 days ago even I would have been way better.

I don't think you can get it under control. I too couldn't find what @InTheShed said here in Victoria.

I kept waiting for my tricombs to go cloudy and lost 1/2 and all my best colas and tops in the process.

It's very interesting as you can find a pattern of how it works. See my post

It's also my first year growing.

@PacificNorthWest call Mr fertilizer in Victoria. They have tons of stuff. I really would be curious if it stops it. Btw if you see it that brown at a top that means it's come into a bunch of other buds on the way up from my experience.

Any time you see the single tiny brown bud that flower is infected.

Did you also have the kind of mold I posted on your branches? Down under the canopy?

The amount of rain has been crazy.

I'm editing this post because I saw the pics in your second post and it's definitely mold. But you might be able to save most of it. Just cut off the infected stalks. You can cut out the infected mold areas and do a good bud washing. Just be sure to add a bucket of water and peroxide. Wash in the peroxide bucket first, then wash in the other buckets. Then you can spray what's left with neem oil. Spray the early in the morning just before the sun comes up. Treating them with neem oil might give them enough time to fully mature.

The problem is cutting the stalks down did not work for me. It was 80 to 90% humidity for a week here and it's cold weather 12 to 14C.

I'm the end I kept trying to wait and it just killed more and more.

I'd love to see photos of someone doing these methods and showing it actually slowed it or stopped or but for me it was just perpetual. The worst part was the indicas buds are so much more sense that even with a tiny brown on top like @PacificNorthWest had the buds all below that were totem inside and you can't see until you pull them all apart.

I did a h202 wash but I still threw out the majority of that plant. I just couldn't cut much of the buds without finding mold at the center. Which leads me back to thinking I should have cut it all on early onset. To me it didn't travel from the cola down it looks like it went from either the roots up or the areas in my post where I had exposed bark and a dark mold formed. Any of those branches would later show this issue. Longer I waited worse it got.

Unfortunately, that can happen. Especially with the humidity and cold that you had. Sometimes trying to save it works. Other times it does nothing to help. I actually ended up harvesting one of my plants early because of mold. But it was only a couple weeks from finishing. I think if I would have had 6 weeks to go like the OP, I would try to save it first. If that fails in a week or so, I'd probably cut it down. It all depends on the weather too. If there are warm low humidity days coming, it increases the chance of the plants surviving. But either way. Mold really sucks.

Yes true. I was just giving him an idea of what happened to me since we are within the same climate zone (same large island) and its usually 65 to 85% with 50% days of rain in October.

I tried to beat it and I think in reality it beat me haha

I'm curious what @PacificNorthWest did.

I just walked out to my 2 remaining hybrids (only have 3 stems left on each) they look super Charlie brown, and sure enough when I pull back the fan leaves, at the top of the cola's there is a brown bud molded and waiting to infect the rest of the plant.

I wondered what it would be like if I removed all fan leaves from the cola so that moisture is not being traped there but I do think its coming from within the stem so I dont know what it would help.

Man I feel sorry for your losses. We had powdery mildew rampant here in MI. That's a mold you can kill with peroxide, or Bonide's ready mixed version (Oxydate, good on all fruits, vegs and flowers) which I prefer, but this year nothing helped. It was weird, wet and annoying this summer. If I hadn't taken my hash plant early I wouldn't have gotten anything at all. Hope you guys up there can salvage!

Lol this is some bad case of bud rot here enjoy.lol

Condolences, amigo. Been a historically tough flower season in the PNW--I've been cutting out rot since early Sept. But what's left is coming down tomorrow.

You've got the right attitude about it, though. It happens & no use getting worked about it. Bygones!

Grow on!
