MJ legal in Oregon? Yes, but many cities and counties banning it

There is backlash against the initiative to grow/produce, process, wholesale/distribute and retail sales (G-P-W-R) of recreational marijuana in the state of Oregon. I just got the updated OLCC email about the new list of counties and cities that are either banning recreational marijuana or putting an initiative on the ballot to ban it. Note that this does not affect possession of an ounce or less of MJ on your person, or up to 8 ounces at your address, or growing up to 4 MJ plants at one address in the state of Oregon. They cannot stop or outlaw that (Medford is trying to outlaw all MJ growing), but they can ban commercial G-P-W-R of recreational marijuana.

Ballot Measure, Y/N? Yes means it is up for a vote in the county/city. No means banned in the county/city.

Nice map, but you missed Union County where they opted out. I was thinking about doing something like that last night looking at the Oregon county maps in my atlas. Need to also add the restricted areas on federal and tribal lands though. Weed is not legal at all in the half of Oregon that is National park/forest/monument, BLM, or on a reservation. None of the tribes in Oregon allow any weed. And no rec stuff within 1000 feet of any school (even home 4 plant grow). If you add it all up, weedy Oregon is really small.

My ex lives in Douglas Co. and she was set to lease some of her farmland for growing, but that may not happen now. I live in Clackamas Co and they sent me a flyer in the mail with restrictions for commercial grow, distribution, processing and selling. Basically in this county you have to be zoned farm/forest to grow (which I am), and zoned urban or industrial for the rest (so I cannot do anything other than grow here). Deschutes County considered opting out of all rec marijuana biz, but they are opting for control by zoning and geographical areas in a very complicated list.

Gott'a love places like Jordan Valley that opted out, even though the entire county of Malhuer opted out. I guess they wanted to be doubly sure to stamp out rec weed! It will be interesting to see how the cities and counties vote.

No biggie. Union Co. opted out w/o a public vote. Note that Wallowa County Commissioners are moving forward with plans to opt out, even after people have built huge greenhouse operations there (and why I am holding off building anything here). Lake County commissioners have also drafted a proposal to opt out. I bet that Grant Co. opts out too. They have until December 27th to file to opt out or declare a vote.

Any County that had a greater than 55% majority vote against Measure 91 can opt out w/o an election. They can opt back in at a future time, which is why many are doing that (playing wait and see). Any county that had a narrower margin vote against can also hold an election to opt out, and 4 counties are going forward with this, but they are not voting on it until November, 2016! Talk about delay... and lost revenue. Any county that opts out of Measure 91 loses out on state sales tax revenue from weed sales. More for the rest of us!

I do not get/understand the year delay in voting for this stuff. Next November? Rec weed will be well on its way by then.

And I think its Clack a mess... I have had to deal with the county here about my property and permits and all that rot. I cannot imagine what they will want for growing here. Cameras, security, odor control, fencing, no visibility from public roads, yadda yadda. At least Measure 91 passed here so there is no vote, though Gladstone, Oregone Shitty and Sandy are set to vote for an opt out. Like that will make any difference in the PDX area or their cities any safer?? "Honey, I have to drive an extra few miles to get some weed..."

Prairie City... population all of 800 or so? In the heart of Grant Co., which is sure to ban it anyway. WE WILL TOLERATE NO EVIL WEED SALES HERE! Like, there would be a store popping up there in May to sell weed to all three stoners there?

When this particular amendment went into effect I expected to see the majority of entities opting out to be from East side of the Cascades. While that is holding true with respect to counties I am genuinely surprised at the number of cities here in the valley that are taking that route.

Ah, well, I cannot correct or edit posts after a day or so here. Couties, Cow-tees... cooties... Marion's got cooties!

I am surprised with several county decisions. One being that Deschutes opted in and is going along for the ride. That may be the only legal county east of the Cascades! Albeit with a trillion requirements and restrictions. The other 3 surprises are all west of the Cascades; Douglas, Linn and your beloved Marion opting for the vote to opt out. Marion is the oddest... though I guess Salem is what it is. I grow Marion berries here. Best damn blackberries of all. Maybe I should burn them in protest?

And all these stupid cities like Medford. If you added up all the costs to vote and opt out, I wonder what it would be? They will also not share in the funds generated by weed sales.

Booze prohibition and repeal was the same though. Oregon became a dry state BEFORE the 18th amendment was passed. When I was a kid here you could not buy booze, beer or wine on Sunday or Holidays (they covered up the beer and wine at Safeway on Sundays and Holidays). They had the OLCC 'Green Front' liqueur stores that sold booze. They had all the booze behind the counter and signs up that said that they could not 'recommend' anything. Repeal was variable, and some states like Mississippi were dry until 1966. Pacific Grove, CA where I used to live, was the last dry town in California until 1968!

Like I mentioned, Marion only voted 48.3% in favor. That also surprised the snickers right outta me front pocket.

Funny about Medford and Eagle Point.
I lived/worked in So. Oregon for a good bit years back and even then both o' those cities saw a lot of dollars pass through compliments of cannabis. Now it's sorta kinda legal and they pass on the revenue? Weird.

Yah, I lived in Southern Oregon for 4 years. Douglas Co. There is more weed there than anything else, most of it being exported to California. Doug Co. is pretty low income based mainly on logging. Oh, that and the Greater Casino Tribe in Canyonville. The tribes all opted out of MJ in Oregon. You would think they could make a booming industry out of growing it. But no...

As I predicted it would do, Sherman Co. (N) is now on the list, along with the cities of Irrigon (N), Mill City (Y), Aumsville (Y), Boardman (N), Moro (N).

Its pathetic. The list is growing every day, and even Deschutes County it putting it to a vote now. East of the Cascades is going to completely opt out in Oregon (even the counties that voted for it). The problem in Deschutes Co. is that it will be treated as opted out until after the general election in November, 2016. So no licenses will be issued there until after the election, if it is voted down (which it will likely be, as Measure 91 passed there). Added cities and counties are:

Mount Angel (Y), Tangent (Y), Medford (Y), Monument (N), Lake Oswego (Y), Deschutes County (Y), North Powder (N), Cove (N), Merrill (N), Grant County (N).

Your missing some cities bud.. towns and cities may incorporate and be considered a separate entity. I live in baker city, Oregon that is baker county and Sumpter and Huntington have incorporated and both have dispensaries in the towns. It breaks down from government, state, county, and cities. They each have their own say as a whole but The ppl are suppose to be the final judge

I just listed what the OLCC posted. They are the ones that issue licenses. They keep updating that list as muni (county and city) government change laws over time.

At any rate, this site has a rec weed sale map by county. It also has the city ban list and what you can possess in Oregon under the rec weed laws.
