The Medical Marihuana Licensing Board will discuss how much marijuana a patient should be able to purchase per day at its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 12:30 p.m.
The Licensing Board was formed under a 2016 law, and will put forth a licensure process for medical marijuana facilities, the application process for which opens Dec. 15.
But as the board and the Bureau of Medical Marihuana Regulation work to implement the new law, they're looking for input on several issues, including what the daily purchasing limit should be for medical marijuana patients.
Other things they will discuss at Tuesday's meeting include:
•Licensing requirements for how much capital a person or company must have to operate a medical marijuana facility or business.
•Licensing insurance requirements
•The limit on how much THC, a component of marijuana principally responsible for the 'high' feeling users can experience, should be allowed in marijuana-infused products.
"I look forward to the opportunity to discuss the topics at hand and get some targeted, quality feedback from the public on several substantive issues," said BMMR Director Andrew Brisbo in a press release.
The bureau, through the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, plans to release rules that will govern the implementation of the new law in November.
The board's testimony so far has centered mostly around an idea to require current dispensaries to shut down to be considered for licenses under the act. The bureau and board came down on that at its last meeting, deciding that businesses who hadn't shut down by Dec. 15 could face an impediment to licensure.
The Medical Marihuana Licensing Board's next meeting, where these topics will be discussed, is at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17. It takes place at the Kellogg Center at Michigan State University, located at 219 South Harrison Road in East Lansing.
