After reading an article about using an espresso machine to extract THC, I tried it myself. Some comments I heard beforehand was that THC can't be extracted with water, it can only be extracted with oil or flammable products so to speak.
So I decided as I do most often "What the Hell!, I can at least experiment." So I did the following. Using my Expobar Espresso Machine with a tradition portafilter I packed it with ABV (Already Been Vaped) grind-age. I expressed it for approximately two ounces of liquid and poured into a small jar with a Ball type lid.
I set it on the counter to cool with the lid on and then checked for any oil separation after it cooled. No Oil. I put it into the frig overnight and checked it again this morning. Still no Oil!!! Okay at this point I'm not expecting much from it.
So I poured the chilled 2oz into a small cup, added one teaspoon of sugar because it didn't taste that great and drank the whole thing. Within 30 minutes I could feel a high really developing. By an hour post drinking, I was flying pretty high.
I'm not sure about the THC extraction level, but it could certainly be diluted, reduced in quantity of ABV or more liquid could be expressed through the 5grams of ABV I used. I feel it could be mixed in with my morning espresso latte easily and will try a smaller dose next time. But Wow!!!
I feel the amount I used was more than I would want to function on if I want to be busy. It would be perhaps perfect later at night. Smaller dosing in the busy times of the day is certainly in order. The mix of ABV was a fairly general collection of what I have been vaping over the last year. Right now I have about 35grams still. I did get a sativa cooling around the mouth and nose initially in the first 15minutes.
I'm going to continue to test the process and will also try it with some decarb'd flower also. Making a larger quantity could be an option and then adding small amounts to different types of tea and coffee. I like to make cold brew coffee and Thai tea so I'm feeling it would be perfect for that.
