After taking comments Thursday on new regulations for the Colorado Springs medical marijuana industry, a planning commision put off a vote until November 18.

The Colorado Springs planning commission is considering new zoning regulations to govern where medical marijuana businesses can be located.

One proposal, that marijuana businesses operating within 1,000 feet from churches, mosques, synagogues and colleges, could force nearly a third of the dispensaries in the city to shut down. The Colorado Springs Diocese and Colorado College are reportedly in support of the measure.

Other regulations being considered include a requirement that dispensaries only operate in industrial, commercial areas of the town, as well as stay 400 feet away from schools and drug abuse treatment facilities.

Colorado Springs City Council will have the final decision after the planning commission votes.
