Medical Marijuana Protest in Modesto
People who used to get medical marijuana from a McHenry Avenue dispensary
protested the raids that brought its closure outside the Modesto Police
Department Friday September 29th 2006. The protest followed Wednesday's
arrests of California Healthcare Collective directors Luke Scarmazzo and
Ricardo Montes, both 26, on suspicion of committing federal drug offenses
linked to their business.
They were due in Fresno's federal court today, along with two of their
employees, brothers Jose Malagon, 33, and Antonio Malagon, 28. Scarmazzo
and Montes opened the clinic in late 2004 to supply cannabis to people with
doctor's recommendations for medicinal marijuana.
