The Michigan Medical Marijuana Panel voted Tuesday on several key issues regarding the drug.
The group is an appointed committee put together for a specific role in marijauna legislation. The group, made up of medical experts, decides the conditions for which medical marijuana should be a treatment.
Results were really all across the board. The panel's nine voting members at the meeting made decisions on three medical conditions.
Autism, asthma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder were among the disorders submitted by people on petitions, asking that medical marijuana be allowed to treat them. After some lively discussion, the panel voted against using medical marijuana to treat autism and asthma, but they voted for PTSD as a condition for pot.
Only two members of the panel voted against having any of the conditions added to the medical marijuana list. The panel's recommendations now go the medical marijuana committee director.
The panel also voted on whether insomnia should be treated with pot--that vote came out 5-4 which isn't a big enough margin to send a recommendation to the director.
They'll have to revisit that particular issue at a later time.
The meeting was open to the public.
