The Orange County chapter of NORML, a nonprofit organization working to legalize marijuana, is holding an all-day conference on medical marijuana Saturday in Laguna Woods Village.
The Medical Cannabis Conference is also sponsored by Apothecary Genetics, a company that has been growing different strains of medical marijuana since 1996, and GGECO University, an online school that provides classes about medical marijuana for patients and families.
Speakers from the medical community and patient advocacy groups will provide information on medical marijuana legislation and information to educate the public about how to safely use medical marijuana.
Dr. William Courtney, who has a practice in Mendocino County and is a member of International Cannabinoid Research Society, will talk about the impact of THC – the main active chemical in marijuana – on a person's diet and how marijuana can improve the function of receptors in the brain.
Dr. Donald Abrams, a professor of clinical medicine at the University of California San Francisco and chief of hematology/oncology at San Francisco General Hospital, will speak on the use of marijuana in pain management and in reducing severity of disease symptoms.
After the speakers, the documentary "What If Cannabis Cured Cancer" will be screened. A question and answer session with director Len Richmond will follow.
The conference is set for 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at the 814-seat Clubhouse 3 theater at 23822 Avenida Sevilla. The event is open to the public and tickets must be purchased in advance to enter the gated community.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors. No one under age 18 will be admitted. Tickets can be purchased at cbdconference.com.
