Medical marijuana is a growing business on the northwest side.
Tonight, the Marijuana Planning Commission is looking at a permit request for a new marijuana dispensary. It would be located near Orange Grove and Interstate 10, and would also grow marijuana.
A similar dispensary and grow operation planned near Ina and I-10 got its marijuana permit last January.
Marana council members have voted in favor of giving the facility a conditional use permit tonight. The owner says they expect to be open by June 1 as both a dispensary and a cultivation facility.
They plan to document and put a serial number on each and every plant. They will have extensive record keeping measures and and extensive security on their property.
The facility owners acknowledge they are aware of the stigma associated with medical marijuana facilities. Tonight, they're saying they plan to be a shining role model of what a legitimate operation looks like in the state.
Marijuana patients thinks prices are too high, but Copper State Herbal Center COO Bryan Hill says he expects prices to go down within the next six months.
In terms of security, they plan to have 18 infrared cameras, four panic buttons in the facility and unarmed guards patrolling 24 hours per day.
Tucson News Now also learned that it will take six to seven patients epr day for the dispensary to make enough money just to keep their doors open.
The owner is saying that while they have a set salary, any profits will be donated to charities of their choice in the community.
