Little Rock (AP) - Thousands more signatures have been submitted in support of an effort to legalize medical use of marijuana in Arkansas.

In a final effort to get the proposal on the November 2nd ballot, the Arkansas Alliance for Medical Marijuana turned the signatures in Wednesday to the secretary of state's office. Last month, the group fell short by more than 30,000 signatures and
was given 30 days to make up the shortfall.

The measure would allow Arkansans with debilitating medical conditions to use marijuana under a physician's advice.

The state said the group needed about 33,500 more signatures to meet the 64,456 minimum.

The secretary of state's office will now check the petitions to verify how many signatures are those of registered voters, as required by law.
