In response to Chad Moody (Your Views, June 19): Oklahoma has one of the highest death tolls due to prescription drugs, mainly pain pills. Prohibition of cannabis has created a huge black market, which subjects everyone to danger. The Legislature is blinded by old propaganda that's been proven to be false. Soon, 20 states and Washington, D.C., will have officially passed medical cannabis laws, while 17 states have decriminalized cannabis. Oklahoma's draconian approach is causing suffering and death while we spend millions of dollars fighting to keep a safe and effective treatment for many illnesses a cash cow for the cartels.
A majority of Oklahomans feel medical cannabis laws would stop the wasteful spending of tax dollars, ruining people's lives. Medical cannabis offers new tax revenue, new jobs and a safer treatment option for our doctors to prescribe. One's health is a medical issue, not a law enforcement issue. Medical cannabis laws are coming to Oklahoma, but how much time and money will we waste and how many lives will be ruined or lost in the meantime?
