Medbox, Inc. (pinksheets:MDBX) ( Medbox, Inc. ) announced that they will be focusing their services on states that have highly defined and polished regulations concerning the use and dispensing of medical marijuana. Medbox is a leader in providing dispensaries with technology, hardware, software and consulting services that improve compliance, increase transparency, and ensure full adherence to all local and state regulations.
Dispensaries in states that do not regulate medical marijuana or have tight controls on the industry have been subjected to federal government inquiries and raids. While Medbox technology is present in some of those states, the company is focused on newly emerging states like Arizona, Connecticut, and Colorado which require state licensing of dispensaries and have a well developed set of regulations.
Several states are now considering allowing the establishment of medicinal marijuana clinics. Lawmakers have introduced bills calling for the legalization or voter approval of medical marijuana in 18 states: Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
In some of these states, legislative deadlines have passed, but the bills will likely be reintroduced in the next session.
The Massachusetts Supreme Court got involved when they recently acted to clarify the ballot language for their citizens who will soon have an opportunity to vote on medical marijuana.
Medbox encourages state regulators to adopt strict licensing procedures for the dispensing of medical marijuana in order to reduce fraud, eliminate any criminality, and ensure that the product is dispensed only to those individuals with a true medical need.
The Medbox system is the only product dispensing solution that verifies the patient's identity through both an identification card and a biometric fingerprint scan, and keeps a permanent, unalterable record of each transaction that includes a photograph of each person obtaining medicine. The Medbox system, when properly used, allows operators to: safe-guard all inventory in the machine, dispense the medicine in moderate to low doses, set dispensing limits as dictated per state regulations, and protects the medicine from contamination.
"We look forward to the day when all states have well defined medical marijuana dispensing laws. Eventually all states that currently allow medical marijuana but don't have clear regulations for how it is dispensed will have to follow the example that states like Arizona and Connecticut have set forth," stated Dr. Bruce Bedrick, CEO of Medbox, Inc. "Our technology works to compliment regulations and enhance conformity to existing regulations."
