The PPFD for the recommended area is what Im interested in finding out.
I cant seem to find this info anywhere.
PPFD is the tell all for plant lighting.
Cannabis can utilize up to 1500 PPFD although you start to see diminishing returns (compared to power input) on anything over 1000

Thanks for the earlier reply I think next summer I need a bigger or better in line fan. I bought the 900 n it only had a weeks use but ill be using it after next week.

This comet I'm quoting above.... so I guess Ur a true believer in led like myself? It's refreshing to see people stating that plants are happier under led than hps.
I am sure that my garden has grown at every stage better than any of my hps runs. I try ed to think of what level of hps I'd compare this 1200 led to and I'm sure it's better than 600hps and probably on pay with 2x400s as far as quantity but as u say quality is were it's at for me. Shorter bushier healthy plants. They seem to love the Mars 2. I will never go back pleased I took the leap to led wen I did

Ok. I would still like to know the PPFD for the Mars 1600 over a 5x5 space?

However I did find the numbers for a the Mars 2 900 and here they are.

411W - fan power = 400W
400 * .87 driver losses = 348W
348 dissipation W * .25 efficiency = 87 PAR W
87 PAR W = ~426 umol/S (PPF) or 1.22umol/s/ dissipation W
87 * .9 lens losses = 78.3 PAR W


in a 2'X2':
19.6 PAR W/ft²
1026 PPFD average

Ops 30"X30" or 2.5'X2.5'
12.5 PAR W/ft²
655 PPFD average

in a 3'X3'
8.7 PAR W/ft²
456 PPFD average

900s are recommended for a space 3.5 x3.5
So the recommended PAR w/ft is 6.39 giving it about 334 PPFD average.
 
Just got the new Mars Pro epistar 320 today , and it's amazing. Been playing with the features and got the programming done , comes on at 6pm at 50% brightness for 30 minutes , then full brightness for 11 hrs , down to 50% for the last 30 minutes .

It's a heavy piece of equipment, big heatsinks and metal enclosed drivers , 8 of them :) , plenty of air flow . Can't wait to get it hung up tonight .

They are a good looking piece of equipment really hope that you keep us informed on their ability and if the plants like them.


One question I have had is can the controller run more than one light? There are others that let you make one a Master with up to a couple hundred Slave lights and when I asked Sara I think she thought I was asking if each light had a remote when you order more than one

You do not get it yet ... Let me help , HID lights are inferior to LED Panels and ALWAYS will be.


LED have about a 2 to 1 watt advantage the PRO series will have even more of a Advantage over non Pro Panels do to the features it incorporates.


You sound like your new to growing , you need to study up on LED Panels to gain a basic understanding.


comparing LED's to HPS lights is like comparing a Porsche to a Hyundai , The LED panels grow that much better per watt then the MH/HPS.

Good points...... Too much HPS power is wasted as heat i think.... But in fairness, those lights are definately in the " weed hall of fame" for me.... They have proved effective and without them the industry wouldnt be so advanced without them... The power has developed outstanding strains, via the breeders.... But like most things, technology marches ever onward.... Bless you HPS, but it will soon be time to totter off into retirement and get a well deserved rest....

I am going to show my age but my first lights I had for indoor were HID / HPS and we had to get our parts at a commercial light supplier (street lights) and mount it on a piece of 2 x 12 since there were no commercial ballasts or enclosures for another couple years so they have done a lot for this hobby and will be around for many more years but it is time to embrace the new technology and move forward

Loving the phased lights on and off intensities.... Tech mirroring mother nature, is an awesome development in my mind

Got to be for plants..... Normally its all dark, then bang !!.... This should give the girls chance to get their sunglasses on at least :riskybusiness::riskybusiness::laugh::laugh:
