The cree 256 will have a easy time surpassing a 600w hps.
The CREE 256 consumes 650 to 680w

A 1000w HPS would be a closer contest , the numbers suggest the Cree could beat a 1000w hps.

LED's are about 40% more effective (or more) per watt compared to HPS.

680w + 40% = 952w in HPS equivalent watts.

Some people find LED watts to be 50% more effective then their HPS lights were.

For instance people who were using 4000w in HID lights are now getting larger harvests with 2000w in LED panels.

Looks like you have no more room in your closet. You may want to consider this: find a spot between two nodes about 18 inches down and pinch.,squeeze, crush the stem ( about 1 inch of stem) , crushing the inside of stem with fingers ( do not use scissors or pliers). The greenish outside bark or fiber will split vertically . Try not to break in half horizontally. Gently bend the stem down and way from light. THe plant will recover in a few hours and try to bend back towards the light, Maybe tie the bent stem down loosely so as not to choke stem. Then the smaller stems will grow upwards.
