Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

@ Dennise!! Just spent a good hour scanning through you're journal...Amazing to see how far you developed in that one grow!:bravo:! you had so many helpful people it was a pleasure to read!! I am basically going to copy what you did, but I am growing auto's so they will not get anywhere near the size of those bad boys!

Thanks again for the help I am going to attempt to order my lights tonight:circle-of-love: Big thanks to you for that vital piece of info I was looking for =)

To sum up i will order (2) 48x3 reflector LEDs and exchange those for 167 watts of CFL.
I harvested 50 grams from my last grow under those cfl's. With 3 weeks veg, 9 weeks flower.. not alot...but good enough for my first try, also was using bagseed but I think it came from a good gene pool its smells like citrus perl! (IDK if it is citrus pearl.. in NewZealand everyone has crazy names for strains and every time we got a strong citrus smell we would say oh thats citrus pearl for sure haha)

Anyway.. get back to the point before my stoned ramblings take us back to 1996 on a warm summers morning...:dreamy:

I am thinking that yeild should go up, but I am more looking for those oh so needed trichomes, I want one of those plants that looks like it has been rolled in iceing suger and i think its possible with these lights.. some LST and a top or two =)

Again big thanks you really helped me make my mind up here =)

How kind of you... I'm so glad I could help and I think you will be thrilled with your new lights.....:circle-of-love:

Thanks Dennise for all your help and your wonderful journal. I ended up going with 2 of the 96x3w reflectors and 6 of the Mars 1200's. Now I just have to anxiously await for their arrival. Will start a grow journal soon, just getting the last of my supplies ordered this week. Still need an RO system and a few fans, then I should be ready to rock. :thanks:

Wow great planning. I would love an invite when you get you journal up and going....:circle-of-love:

Ok I have another Question... Im looking at the 48x3 and the 96x3.
The 96x3 is $215 shipped or for two 48x3 it would be $264.80.
I'm thinking a few things here...
1. Is it best to have LEDs facing straight down or are angles better? as in /.\
2. Is it better to have this light as one unit or as two?
3. Could you flower two-three smallish plants in a growbox with one 48x3 light?
4. What would be the max number of plants you could grow with a 96x3?
5. Last but not least,(dennise) have you noticed any diffrence in heat from the 96x3 compared to the 48x3?

Many thanks in advance! All help/input welcome =)

IMO 3 plants under a 48x3w is asking a bit much but the 96x3 will do it. There is a little bit more heat coming from the 96x3 than the 48x3 but it certainly isn't twice as much. Even with both of the lights in the closet together they do not put off enough heat for it to be an issue for me. I have 2 fans in the closet and that keeps the temps between 72-82 most of the time. I keep the door cracked when lights are on for good air exchange but other than that it just has never caused an issue....:circle-of-love:

Hello everybody:))
I just registered to this forum and I am also a newbie on my 2nd grow. I am interested to step it up with my third grow. I have seen that you grow very successfully with these led panels and I have learned a lot so far from you all. I also like how Sara takes care of things and that most of you are very happy with the lights. Here is the deal.

I 'd like to supplement my 2 5x5 flowering tents equipped with 600 w hps with led. I was thinking adding 4 old style 60x3 leds to the corners/sides of my tents. I am also open to replace the hps completely as money is available. Maybe replace the 600w HPS in one tent with 5 mars 2 400 w panels and supplement the 600 w hps in other tent with 4 of the reflectors 48x3 or the 60x3 old style panels. Maybe do a side by side with the same strain.

I also have one 4x4 veg tent with a 4 foot 8 tube t5. I'd like to replace that or add to it. How would 4 of the 48x3 would work in that tent? Or supplementing the t5 with a couple of the 48x3. My veg tent has a lot of stuff going on (different stages, strains, height) and having flexibility with the lights is important. My T5 is not really working for me. Do you have suggestions/ideas for me?

One more thing. I see a lot of identical panels on ebay which look all like the toplightled panels. Are they all the same? (come from the same factory) I'd like to buy from Sara, as I trust her and I trust your experience. What is her ebay name? When looking at the 180 w old style panels I can see a lot of price difference and they all look identical. Thanks for all your help.

Burning spear, what is your height like in those 5X5's? I am assuming got pretty decent height cause using HPS and the hoods/venting take up more height then LEDs.

If i where you I would not go with old style(IMO since LED new tech it normally better to go with newer designs, as long as they proven), and if height is not an issue, the Mars are superior to the Reflector because 5 W LED, once again my opinion.

But if not replacing HPS just yet, I would make sure your plans support future upgrades, so I would go small and modular. Eventually, all LED, 4 Mars 2 400's probably be good for your 5 X 5 tent. So if I where you to start I would add 2 X Mars 2 400 to opposite corners of the tent, slightly angled toward the middle, with the 600W hps in middle. Maybe go with 700's, but that might be over kill.

Just some photos of my harvest under my 3x Mars II LED's that I wanted to share. (I have 3x 80x5w models)

Very nice, that looks like some quality ganja, very nice color!

So I am having a good time reading up all I can on these LEDs.. Very thankful for all this excellent information!

I need some opinions though..

At the moment I believe that only the marsII 700's and 48x3 reflectors in the UK (Sara can you please confirm this?)
If I do a price comparison it would cost me €198 for 2 48x3 reflectors(roughly total of 180 watt)

But if I go for the MarsII 700 it will cost €256 (roughly 340watt)

That means it would cost me €400 to get 340 watts out of the reflectors, thus I save €150 on the marsII 700

But, would the 5w LEDs in the marsII 700 be TO powerfull and over saturate the plants? I only plan to veg for 3 weeks at most and I also LST and TOP so I can keep my canopy nice and low.
Right now my grow space is 120cm tall I could increase this to 160cm if needed but that would be max.

Can anyone suggest anything? I really liked Dennis's reply but when I did the price comparison it seemed odd,
Is this because the reflector series is better then the mars series? or because the reflectors come with the veg and flower switch?

I know the 700 might be an overkill right now but it means I can move into something bigger and my light will not need to be upgraded..

Again all opinions welcome and thanks for all the help so far everyone!!!

Here are some pictures of what is going on with my girls so far under my Top LED Mars II 700.

:thanks: Sara. I love my light. :circle-of-love:

I hope that everyone is having a great day so far. And I wish all of you an excellent weekend. :thumb:

Just ordered:cheertwo: Went with the marsII 700 couldnt beat the price and it's in the UK, win win =)
Thanks for all the help people!!!!!!

I will start a journal, Northern light auto's 96% indica(Medicinal:peace:) (seedlings pushed through today) from Sensi seeds

Now I gotta play the waiting game...I am no good at it =)

Love :420: I have found my people!!!

Thanks for your ideas. The height of my tents is 7 feet. So I hope that it high enough to use leds. I am also debating to go with the newer kind leds. Right now, I do not have the funds to go all led so starting small and modular is the way to go for me:)) Maybe using 2 extra Mars 2 to supplement the 600 w HPS instead of 4 150/180 w led panels would make more sense. But I could also use the 4 small reflector in my veg tent at a later date if I like them. Decisions decisions. :)

beautiful plants, guys. those buds are just gorgeous, icemud! i really hope this 144x3w will be a big improvement in flowering over my 450w of 2700k cfl lighting :p

Hi guys! New here but I have a question and I'm hoping this is the place to get the answer. I probably should have asked this before I ordered my light but it's too late now! I was too excited. Being a noob and taking in all this info is exciting and overwhelming.

Ok so I just ordered a grow tent, dimensions are 48x24x48 (inches) or 4x2x4 (feet). I'm hoping the 100x3w (old style) led I just ordered will be good enough for the tent. I was planning on doing 2 plants (auto's). I plan to only do auto's and maybe scrog it?

And it's perfectly fine to use that led from the time I plant the seed until harvest?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I grew one auto in 160 cm or 62". Did DWC and heat was an issue but never burned the plant. Matter of fact it looked nice. Sweet Seeds Red Poison. One cola 20" tall. You can use fan to beat the heat issue. I had a tub filled with water and put ice in with my DWC bucket to keep nutes under 65 degrees F. I am happy with my purchase.

Cannabomb, congrats on your purchase. :) great lights!! i dont know if youre new to growing, but speaking for myself, being patient is the main key with growing..we are our worst enemy..overwatering, overfeeding, trying everyones tips and secrets, etc. Mother Nature is perfect! She does her thing on and with definitness of purpose.
