I grew out 4 feminized Jack Herer bonsai mothers from seed. Learned some things along the way like how to fight thrips and gnats, and how salt build up SUCKS when you're a noob and you don't know that's what the problem is yet haha.

All mothers will veg until after harvest to find the keeper pheno.

-Nutrients:
AN PH Perfect MGB
AN Voodoo Juice
AN Overdrive
CalMag
Roots Gold Excelurator
Great White mychorizae
GH ph down

-Stuff:
Mars Hydro TSL 2000
2x4 Vivosun tent
6" 440 cfm fan pulling from both this 2x4 and a 6x6 veg tent through a scrub box with a Phat carbon filter.
Atami B'Cuzz coco
Smart Pots 1gal
Tap water (130ppm)w/Boogie hose filter
17gal nutrient reservoir with 396gph Ecopump
Rainbird 9 outlet drip manifold
DIY rings/halos

Clones:
-Charged coco with great white, roots gold and 50ppm calmag
-Filled small cell trays with coco and inserted clones, I used clonex.
-Under a dome, misted the dome and not the cuttings
-Day 11 all were rooted and transplanted to solo cups
-Fed wet/dry cycles with light nutrients and root stuff until the cups were fully rooted.

Which brings us to today when I will be transplanting into their final 1 gallon Smart Pots.

@Pennywise @DRey @oregon Parks @013 I'm continuing the other journal that you guys have popped in on here since I'm conveniently about to start using my @Mars Hydro the same time they're running a contest.

All in the same day I transplanted and moved them to the 2x4 tent meaning new temp/rh/light/airflow. Next time I'll let them acclimate to the new environment before transplant. The first 24 hours they were looking droopy and pale but I had the mars on at like 50% so I turned it down to minimum and they look much better now. Its my first led and I didn't expect how strong it is.

Now its time to dial in the drip system. Also my first time doing this. Right now each drip ring is putting out around 175ml/min very accurately which is a relief. I might want to dial that back after reading that slower is better for full saturation but either way it can't hurt. I'll probably add hydroton to the top of the pots so the drippers don't dig little trenches in the coco.

Ive read plenty of arguments between perlite vs no perlite. Theres some valid points to both sides but it kinda seems like it comes down to preference so I went the easier route not having to mix. Maybe I'll try both next run and compare.

Right now I have it turned as low as it goes. I'm not sure if that's necessary but they were unhealthy looking after transplant so I'm gonna slowly increase it. How far away are your lights? I'm at 16" above tops of plants rn

Thanks for the follow!

Thanks, i never realized perlite was debated, figured it was common thing to do :)

My lights go up and down during the grow. My current utopia haze was able to cope with 100% power at 15 inch (although there was some foxtailing going on, but not sure if that was due to light stress or just genetics), but right now the light is at 17 inch, because the flowering cycle is coming into the ripening phase. I'll reduce lightlevels slowely from now on, simulating the arrival of winter.

Would you say perlite is the way to go?

When I first put them into the 2x4 the coco was kind of cold to the touch(60f) and they seemed to dislike it so I aimed a space heater at the intake vent and now the medium is at 65+ which has made a big difference and now they're drinking and growing. The humidity is low(35-40%) but that's better than cold roots I think.

I'm going to have to flip to 12/12 now I think because theres about 18" between the light and canopy and that's as high as the light can go so I'm afraid I'm going to run into problems after the stretch.

I flipped them to 12/12 today because they're getting too big even after topping. I think next grow I'm just going to flip to 12/12 right at the transplant to 1 gallon.
They get droppy an hour before lights out. I think it's normal.

The newer growth has a sheen to it or something. It's not yellow like it looks in the pics. It's more of a metallic/oily sheen on the inner part of the leaf and fades to normal green at the tips. My tsl-2000 is up to about 60% and maybe 14" above.

Flower Week 1

I used the drip system for the first time tonight. My feed strength for NPK base nutes was about 400ppm. With tap and calmag included I was 750ppm total. I added voodoo juice, roots gold, carboload and superthrive. 5.8ph and I made the water temp 68f dont know if that matters.

I dont really have a thorough plan for the feed schedule so I am going to start out feeding 500ml, 2x a day(lights on and off) and see how it goes.

Lights are now at 75% and showing no sign of stress

Oh, I'd also like to mention that these plants mothers are named after vocalists and the clones are respective song titles(links included)...

Emmylou Harris
"Tulsa Queen"
"Boulder to Birmingham"
Dolly Parton
"My Blue Tears"
"Coat of Many Colors"

Joni Mitchell
"Morning Morgantown"
?? I forget the other two and its lights off

Skeeter Davis
"Sunglasses"
"End of the World"

:nerd-with-glasses:

Flowering stretch has started. Im feeding 3x a day to decent runoff about 650ppm base nutrients. After tap and calmag I'm at about 950.

I vegged too long in solo cups and now I'm going to possibly run out of vertical space. Im only day 10 flower. I may have to remove my drip runoff tables to free up some head room.
