Polish President Andrzej Duda signed the law previously approved by the Sejm on Friday, according to which medication containing marijuana can be purchased at pharmacies on prescription, reports RMF24.
"According to the new rules, patients should have simplified access to marijuana to treat symptoms of certain diseases, such as chronic pain, nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy," the report said.
Initially, the bill provided for patients to independently grow marijuana for personal consumption. While adopting the law, some amendments were made, according to which raw materials for such medication should be imported from abroad.
The use of marijuana for medical purposes has already been legalized by the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Macedonia.
The law on simplifying access to marijuana was voted for by 440 deputies of Polish Seim in late June.
As it was reported earlier Georgian court abolished the punishment for marijuana consumption. A public campaign demanding the decriminalization of drugs became active in Georgia in recent years.
