BUD BUST: A man involved in a scheme to smuggle 240 pounds of marijuana
by using two Canadian military trucks was sentenced yesterday to more
than three years in prison.
Robert Ralph Laurin, of Vancouver, B.C., was arrested at a shopping mall
outside of Blaine, where he was waiting to receive the shipment of "B.C.
Bud."
Laurin was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 37 months in prison, to
be followed by three years of supervised release, said Lawrence Lincoln,
an assistant U.S. attorney in Seattle. In all, seven people were arrested
in the scheme. U.S. Customs officials said they found the pot in August
during a routine search with drug-sniffing dogs.
