The Alabama Legislature has given final approval to a marijuana oil bill sought by families who want the oil as a potential treatment for their children's seizure disorders. The Alabama Senate voted 27-0 Thursday to agree with a minor House change to the bill. The legislation now goes to Gov. Robert Bentley for his signature. he bill would fund a $1 million University of Alabama at Birmingham study on the effectiveness of using cannabidiol to control seizures. Bill sponsor Sen. Paul Sanford said he is ecstatic for the families who were seeking a legal way to obtain the oil in Alabama. The oil does not get users high and anecdotal evidence suggests it is an effective treatment. The bill is called "Carly's Law" after a 3-year-old girl from the Birmingham-area.
