Marijuana Grow House Operation Busted

Following a two-month investigation, a marijuana growing operation has been busted in Fort Bend County.

One suspect was arrested at the site. The Fort Bend County Narcotics Task Force, a Houston HIDTA initiative (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area), concluded a narcotics investigation targeting a marijuana growing operation being conducted in a Waterview Estates home in the Richmond area.

The indoor growing operation was located at a residence in the 5000 block of Beech Fern Drive. As a result of the investigation, a search warrant for the residence was obtained from Assistant District Judge Pedro Ruiz.

On Jan. 9, task force agents conducted a search of the residence located in a sophisticated indoor operation being conducted in five rooms of the residence.

Agents located 587 marijuana plants inside the residence. They also found indoor growing lights, scales, water pumps, fans, power inverters and assorted equipment used for manufacturing, packaging, and selling marijuana. Drug agents also located $91,941 in U.S. currency.

The suspect arrested at the scene was identified as Tho Nguyen, 32. Nguyen was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail on the charge of Possession of Marijuana (greater than 5 pounds, under 50 pounds) .

The cash was seized under the Chapter 59 Statute by the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office. Nguyen was given a $15,000 bond and he has posted bail and is no longer in the county jail.
