If Oklahomans want to find a new source of revenue, they should look no further than the legalization of marijuana. The estimated revenue in 2017 from the sale of marijuana is $8.5 billion. Also, Oklahoma would benefit from a decrease in the expenditures used to combat the illegal sale of marijuana. Marijuana is arguably safer than tobacco and alcohol. As a state, we need to stop being behind the times and instead choose to be on the leading edge of reform in all areas. If we wait for the federal government to legalize it altogether, we will miss out on years of potential revenue.
