Hemp foods are one of the hottest health food trends in North America, and the export growth achieved by a fast-growing Canadian company is demonstrating that there is vibrant consumer demand for nutritious hemp foods overseas, too. Exports of products from Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils have grown more than 500% over the past year and the company looks to sustain their dynamic export growth by exhibiting their full line of healthy hemp foods at BioFach, the largest organic trade show in the world, from February 17-20, 2010.
This is the third consecutive year that Manitoba Harvest (Manitoba Harvest | Home) has exhibited at BioFach (BioFach - Home), which is held annually in Nuremberg, Germany. The show will feature more than 2,500 exhibitors, and is expected to attract more than 45,000 retailers and industry experts from more than 100 countries. In addition to the Biofach show and other business in Germany, Manitoba Harvest will also participate in an international trade tour organized by the Organic Trade Association in Canada Welcome to OTA in Canada - Organic Trade Association .
Manitoba Harvest's continued efforts to expand sales in Europe is gaining momentum and is becoming more cost-effective. Over the past year, the company has opened many new accounts and added more distributors. At the Biofach show, Manitoba Harvest will announce an important new distribution partnership that will help the company expand into previously untapped regions of Germany and eastern European countries such as Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia. In 2009, Manitoba Harvest exported products to eight nations (in addition to the United States) including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland and Japan.
"Through our export initiatives the past few years we have gained a greater understanding of the European marketplace and we have established some key contacts and distribution partnerships," says Alex Chwaiewsky, International Sales Manager. "We knew it would take time and effort to get things going, and now we are pleased with how things have progressed. Having knowledgeable local sales people meeting with retailers in the EU on our behalf is key, so our establishment of a network of experienced and reputable sales and distribution experts has been a priority," adds Chwaiewsky.
Now that medical researchers, nutrition experts and chefs in the U.S. and Canada are demonstrating that hemp is a nutritious and eco-friendly superfood with vast culinary applications, the company is using this backing and their eleven years of experience educating consumers to cultivate interest in markets around the globe. "Foods that offer omega-3 essential fatty acids like hemp are hot because medical evidence touting the health benefits continues to grow," says Mike Fata, co-founder and President. "Hemp seed also offers an impressive digestible protein profile and an abundance of vitamins, minerals and fiber," adds Fata.
During the past 5 years, Manitoba Harvest's sales have grown more than 1,000% earning them a spot on the Profit 100 list of the fastest growing businesses in Canada. Manitoba Harvest produces Hemp Bliss — an award-winning line of organic Hempmilks, organic cold-pressed Hemp Oil, Shelled Hemp Seed, Hemp Seed Butter and a line of innovative Hemp Protein Powders. "In addition to our own line of branded products, we are also a hemp foods ingredients supplier to manufacturers, so our export business is a two-pronged approach," notes Fata.
Founded in 1998, Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils is the world's largest vertically-integrated, farmer owned hemp food manufacturer. The company strives to create the healthiest hemp foods, to educate the public about healthy lifestyle choices, and to support sustainable and organic agriculture. Manitoba Harvest is proud to partner with Renewable Choice Energy to reduce their environmental impact through wind power and carbon offsets.
