Malawi, Golden Tiger, Wild Thailand & Apple Betty From Herbies Seeds

I just put a couple of GT 3 seeds in H2O last night and plan on low stress training which I have never done. Most of the time I have manifolded previous plants in the past with good results. However I have seen some impressive GT plants with low stress training so I going to give it a try with these aggressive GT3's. Good luck...
Basically what I have done is topped above the fifth node, cut off the first and second node.

Then tied down the new "top" branches as they grew and continued to tie them down until the plant reached 20" wide.

She is there now and all I will do is some minor trimming of side branches and try to keep the canopy as level as I can...

If she continues to be a wild child I will install a wire hoop @ 30" high and tie the branches onto it and force them to grow horizontally.

Good luck with your grow !

Cheers

Day 52

Today is official Re-Naming day ;)

Some may remember I had a slight issue with getting the sprouted seeds into solo cups and ended up with two seeds in one cup :bongrip:

I now believe what I have been calling The Apple Betty is actually The Wild Thailand. And visa versa o_O

Going by the width of the leaves and the fact that "The Apple Betty" is the only one "asking" for more food !

She is Indica dominant and the other three are clearly Sativa's....

I am now two days past my target of 50 days to flip to flower.

Tomorrow I will decide how much to trim.

Thinking to pick out which branches to keep and trim everything under the second or third node on each branch....

The "Apple Betty" is 17" tall, the rest are three to five inches shorter. Assuming a X2 stretch that is within my target range.

That's a great idea to clean up the lower branching and middles. 3rd or 4 node down really helps out on the air movement and my shoulder during trimming..
Congratulations on the plants Chuck, they look great!

Day 57, third day of flower.

Moving forward I will be listing just the flower days !

I will continue to try to maintain a level canopy but it's time for a bench mark to track the stretch.

Numbers are in the images...

Scary to think that if the breeders estimates are correct I might be looking at 95 more days for the Golden Tiger o_O

Thoroughly cleaned the humidifier and have switched to distilled water. Humidity is up to 58% @ 80 F with my exhaust fan off. I am all out of water and when I replenish my supply I will see if I can get it down to no more than 50%....

Are you going to do anything to keep them from stretching vertically? I’m interested because I recently started growing a Golden Tiger, Chocolate Thai, Sour G and a Panama. CL🍀 :morenutes: :thanks::420::Namaste:

The work to keep them shorter has already been done by forcing them to grow horizontally.

If any tops do get ahead of the others I will tie them down to keep the canopy even.

I would guesstimate they would be over a foot taller without. And with the stretch who knows how tall they would be..

Good luck with your grow..

Day 6 of 12/12.

Tomorrow I will switch to HPS.

I think I mentioned ? I retired the Air Domes a week or so ago, couldn't see any benefit !

And I have retired the humidifier, I've opted to run with my room exhaust off, temps are 82F and rh 50%.

I have ordered a controller for that fan, I'd like to stay at ~80F and see at least some air exchange for the room.

The Girls are on their second day of 5.5g/4L and seem to be LOVING IT :yahoo:

Just started this evening to clean out any branches that won't amount to much.

Moved my panels apart, now at roughly 5' x 5' x 4' high....

That's all I can think of for now. Oh and not sure if it matters but I mixed in 1/4tsp of DYNOMYCO C feeding before last !

I have to say, I am Really Enjoying the Lambs Bread from my last harvest :bongrip:

Not exactly giving me the munchies but I have The Ability to cook a nice supper !

A Major goal in my search for the perfect smoke ! Indica's pose more of a challenge and I usually don't get much done ;)

Sautéd pork chops with brown mushrooms, sprinkled with French onion soup mix, baked potato, steamed asparagus and a Caesar salad (store bought) 🤤

Day 9 of 63....

The Girls received a hair cut yesterday and didn't miss a beat ;)

In the last three days the slow poke Malawi has grown 5", the rest of the girls turned in a respectable inch a day !

I haven't moved the light height since the start but the Apple Betty is now 20" away. She isn't complaining, the back of my hand is barely warm at top height and I do have reasonable air movement...

Am considering installing a hoop and tying the tops down to it but I'm going to wait a minute and see....

Last bit of gear for piece of mind and convenience arrived today, don't know why I waited so long

A temperature controller for my room exhaust fan !

Depending on the outside temperature it can get to mid 80'sF in my enclosure. Not bad but I'd like to see it a bit lower and/or Not have it constantly run, temp and rh then is a bit too low. Physically monitoring it is a PITA ;)

Temperature difference between bag height and sensor is one degree.

With the unit set @ 78F it turns on @81F, good enough, eh ?

Greetings,

Details first ;)

Only one seed was of a nice size with black lines/speckles But they all germinated !

Three floaters and one sinker.....

Two days in water and they had all cracked and started to show a tap root. Good enough, into solo cups !

Two days later they were all above ground.

One hiccup, long story short, two seeds ended up in the same cup...

Double seedlings.jpg

Later that evening I popped the ProMix HP out and gently separated them. The tap roots were roughly as long as the stems and hadn't started to intertwine. The only sign of trauma in the next few days was a slight crinkle in the first set of leaves.

I'm using a 600w MH/HPS light in a 42" parabolic reflector. My grow "room" is a series of light weight panels 4' high than can expand from a 4'x4' to a 5'x5'. Plywood frame, 1/8" hollow core plastic faced with tin foil. Inside a 10'x10'x8' high room. Inside a 26'x36'x10' high room ;)

Two Honeywell 7" fans inside the enclosure and another for room exhaust.

Light is @44" and 75%.

Five gallon fabric bags with Air Domes. They will be turned on around day 30 and will only run at light on hours.

Pot elevators, saucers, 1/2" plywood base and double wheel castors with a single post. They replace the single wheel/bearing type.

One pot is a layer of clay pebbles and a root control disc. Pot #2 has a 3" air stone instead of the supplied lines.

Pot #3 and #4 have the Air Domes simply covered with cheese cloth.

Nutrients are Mega Crop one part. I start my seedlings on .7g/4L right away.

Yesterday I prewet my ProMix HP with 1.5g/4L of MC so they would be moist today at transplant.

Relative humidity is less than 20% right now. I performed a test with 4L each per pot and they were almost dry in three days without plants !

My lights off temps have been as low as 64F so today I purchased an oil filled heater. Back to square one balancing fans, light power/height and temps ;)

I also noticed the manufacture date on my bale of ProMix HP was 2020 so I sprinkled the root ball with Dynomyco at transplant, just to be safe !

Fast forward to Day 14, transplant day !

I didn't realize you had started a new grow, Chuck. Everything looks nice and healthy.

I love that you're growing mostly Ace Seed strains. I'm going to be growing 2 Ace Seed strains this year as well. I hope you like the Apple Betty. I'm not a huge fan of indicas either.

Stretch continues @ 1"/day, the Malawi is now taller than the Golden Tiger and Wild Thailand. The Apple Betty is six inches higher than the rest and if she continues I may have to tie her down ;)

The Girls came out for their first photo shoot last night ! Too much Lambs Bread though, didn't realize the lighting wasn't quite right until I got the images on the computer :bongrip: Oh well !
