A group planning to operate a medical marijuana dispensary in Maine's largest city may have to find a new location because it's chosen site is too close to a private school.
The Congress Street location in Portland being eyed by the Northeast Patients Group is within 500 feet of the Christian Academy of Portland, housed inside the Deliverance Center. The school expects to have five or six students this fall.
Rebecca DeKeuster of Northeast Patients Group tells the Portland Press Herald that if the Congress Street location doesn't meet state standards they will look elsewhere.
Northeast Patients hopes to open in December.
Last week the state of Maine chose three companies to operate six of eight medical marijuana dispensaries in the state.
