Magical Butter 2 - Worth the money?

So I’m on the edge about buying the MB2... read reviews some really positive some negative wanted to talk with some people first hand who are using or who have stopped using it for any reasons!

If you like it why? And do you find it better than the conventional stovetop or crockpot methods!

Thanks all excited for this discussion :thumb:

My wife broke mine almost instantly. But it works if used correctly. My only gripe is you can't do a bunch at once. I like the flashy LEDs and the pre done timers and heater are nice but you can figure it out in a pressure cooker pretty easily.

Thing is I learned how before these and I tried em and I just like doing it how I know. It isn't hard using a pressure cooker and a P.C. is better quality device.

Hi Dutch, I use the "fast" version of the machine. So far, I really like it. It's great for infusing butter or really any oil. I make butter for edibles and tincture that I use to fill gel-caps.

Cleaning the machine is a pain.
The makers website has helpful recipes. Alcohol Tinctures are also detailed (my next project).

The best part is that it's self contained and easy to use - fill your oil, "botanicals" and press the short cycle or long cycle.

I hope this helps!

I love mine. Nice and simple. My favorite part is it makes all the mess inside the unit. It blends everything down for maximum surface area exposure to your carrier but you don't have to worry about losing trichomes bc there all inside the machine already.

I have not noticed any complaints about the cleaning portion. I just fill it with soap and water run the clean cycle and wipe it all down when it finishes.

My complaint would be it's noisier than I expected. But it's tolerable.

My wife broke mine almost instantly.

At the risk of bringing up a possibly bad memory, would you mind explaining exactly how she broke it? I have one, but have not had the opportunity to make use of mine, yet - so, while I've read a bit about it in anticipation, I haven't actually had any hands-on experience. And I am... a bit of a klutz. In other words, I am now somewhat fearful that I might break mine, lol.

My pressure cooker is a pressure canner, and it's a 22-quart model, so the MB2 Machine seems like it'd be the best device for me to use (of the ones I actually own) due to its more reasonable capacity.

My complaint would be it's noisier than I expected. But it's tolerable.

Can you expand on the noise factor? In other words... A blender is noisy, too. But we sort of expect that, because of what it does. On the other hand, a circular saw is NOISY. Get up early on a Saturday morning, decide to tackle that home project while everyone else is still asleep and not underfoot, get out your tools, plug in the saw... and moments after turning it on, you have woken everyone else in the house, because its sound seems to travel all through the residence. Is the Magical Butter Machine at all like that? Or is it more like just another kitchen appliance that is noisy while you are standing in the kitchen, but can easily be ignored when you walk into another room?

I won some MB machines in 420 contests- kept one and gave the rest away. I’ve found it very useful for making a lot of concoctions, cannabis related and otherwise. Honey infused with berries and herbs, olive oil and herbs for salad dressings, etc. I honestly don’t think I would ever miss it if I didn't have it, and I wouldn’t have gone out and bought one. It doesn’t do anything I can’t do on the stovetop easily enough - it’s just more convenient as a set it/forget it sort of appliance.

The quality is fair. It looks impressive coming out of the box and has some cool flashing lights. A little more peeking under the hood and you’ll see it’s pretty cheaply fabricated, but adequate.
It’s not the least bit water resistant even though it could appear that way at a glance. When I accidentally dropped the top of the unit in the sink while cleaning it, it instantly filled with water. I took it apart and dried it and it survived.
My only other complaint is the crazy amount of loud beeping it gives off when it reaches the end of its cycle. I could understand one or two beeps but don’t see the need for more.

Re the noise in use- i don’t find it annoyingly loud. I often run it outside somewhere anyway to disperse the smells, but inside wouldn’t bother me. It’s just an intermittent whirring/slurping noise that runs every ten minutes or so. Quieter than a coffee grinder or a blender I think. Perhaps on the dB level of one of those immersion blender/hand mixer things. Whatever they’re called....:)

It’s been collecting dust for the last year actually. Talking about it makes me want to drag it out and think of some more things to brew up with it.

So in my research I’ve found the noise to be one of the most common complaints about the machine.

- ease of use
- for what it does
- pricepoint

People seem to be happy with the purchase all around, I am seriously thinking about it. Thanks again for more follow up everyone !

Much appreciated

Happy days

I agree 100% WC.. liked it..wont buy it again as it is all bells and whistles added to a pressure cooker. Not worth the money in ny opinion.

My wife broke it because they say you can put whole buds in there with stems. Well not as big as I grow. My complaint was the size as I expected it to be loud. It doesn't do much at a time. So she crammed in some and broke the motor.

After decarb removenthebflower from the stem and you are good to go. But then you don't need the agitator blade in there which makes the noise.

It is a bit of a design flaw to have a weak motor spinning that blade in there. I can still use it but the blade don't spin.

But lights look cool.

I design electronics for a living and know exactly how they made this and they did a poor job. They are first to market so they are making money but the product has a number of design flaws. But works well.

I find the old way just as easy really.

The best thing about this is it contains the smell. Cooking down weed can alert your neighbors as to what is going on.

I like my mb2, baught it, then won one here...lol so have two

Cleaning is the only negative to me, and that I can't do small, like 1cup batches

Now I use an Instant Pot, to me much easier for small batches

I will try rich Simpson oil, or tincture , in my mb2 soon

If u make oils or butters a lot, I say get one, if ya do it occasionally or in small amount, the Instant Pot is great

The other thing I was going to mention is that their customer service is top notch. Always gives you a better feeling about a product when that’s the case.
The two cup minimum amount seems a bit limiting but on the other hand the reason they state that is just because the blades don’t reach all the way to the bottom. The mixture needs to reach that minimum level for the blades to blend the ingredients. So if you aren’t in need of that large amount of whirring and blending, (which is a bit overkill anyway IMO) you can just blend it up beforehand and toss it in to heat and infuse.
It’s definitely a worthwhile buy if you have the money and aren’t fond of DIY. But the ‘magical’ part is mainly in the flashing coloured lights

I purchased an MBII and have no complaints and only good things to say about the machine. To me it seems quite well made. Cleaning it after use was a royal pain until I read the directions explaining how to put a little water and a few drops of dish detergent in and let it clean (for the most part) itself in little time. I feel it was a great investment.
