Northampton, Mass. — One of the state's only certified medical marijuana prescribers is calling it quits with the practice. Dr. Jill Griffin is one of only 13 physicians in western Massachusetts who have seven or more active medical marijuana certifications.
In a voicemail and letter to her patients, Dr. Griffin said she will no longer be providing the annual certifications needed to purchase medical marijuana and that will close her office on 41 Locust St. at the end of the month. She said this was driven by a hostility on cannabis medicine from government regulators and the medical field.
Dr. Griffin also said that several colleagues faced disciplinary action in regards to their practice in cannabis medicine. She stopped accepting new patients earlier this year, leaves open the possibility of taking up the practice again in the future.
Dr. Griffin has made arrangements with Canna Care Docs on King Street in Northampton to take custody of her patients' records. These files will be made available to the provider, which has eight offices in Massachusetts.
