Low and slow drying?

Hello everyone. Can this be done in a small dorm fridge? If so, do you lay the buds directly in the fridge or do you put them in paper bags? Do you close off the opening of the bags or leave them open? Thanks for your help.

I don't know about the fridge thing, but when I dry in paper bags I close them by rolling a couple of times and then putting a bulldog clip on to hold it closed. There was a member who mentioned that she was going to try using a fridge to dry and cure her harvest. She thought it might preserve more of the terpenes. I don't think she said anything about how it turned out.

While you are there take a peek at Tangwenas Malawi Cobs thread. This is best done with fresh harvest bud. Same- first 2 pages describe the steps. I just made a fresh monster cob last week. Cobs are an old way of curing- check out my short journal. Making cobs saves part of your harvest for later, plus when the cobs are done you will have some of the smoothest smoke you have ever puffed!! I’m talking monster hit - with no cough at all!

Dorm fridge - sure if the harvest fits inside. Perhaps my viewpoint is skewed. In construction moisture as in water vapor moves thru concrete floors and plastic vapor barriers with ease- why would a paper bag change that? The idea is buds will gently shed moisture and the bag absorbs it. Not sure the bag is necessary but the fridge does regulate the humidity for a slow cure.

But before you cure your buds.... have you washed them? Yes budwashing is a thing. No, not one single trichome is water soluble. Ever try to clean a pair of trim scissors? That goo stuck on there is your trichs and will not wash off with water. It takes a solvent to get the trichs off your trimmers. If you are skeptical try this - wash 1/2 of your harvest, leave the other half unwashed. Keep them tagged but separated and then after the cure & dry do some taste test comparisons. The washed bud will be much more smooth to smokeI I bet after doing this test you will wash all of your buds, I know I do!! There is a procedure for this using three 5 gallon buckets of lukewarm water. Some folks add 1 lemon & 1/2 cup of baking soda to first bucket other 2 buckets are plain fresh water. Dip buds in first bucket and swirl gently, avoid hitting sides of bucket. Pull them out let them drip and rinse them in bucket 2, then do the same for bucket 3. Hang to drip dry for 4 hours and proceed to low & slow curing. Save part of the buds for cobs. After you see how dirty the water in first bucket becomes you will believe too, that crap would normally be inhaled so yeah!

I tried Dr Ziggy's low and slow with my first auto flower harvest and will continue in the future, I am currently just finishing up my photo period harvest with what I could fit im my fridge, the rest was hung to dry but everything gets washed now regardless.
I followed the technique step by step and was a success my first attempt, I highly recommend it, your smoke will be as smooth and clean as a well made dab, cheers :peace:

The ring around my wash bucket tells me I am removing something I'd rather not consume, this is after washing one plant from my indoor harvest.

Roger that East Coast,

Yes sir that’s some nasty stuff in that water!

I was skeptical too on bud washing. I’ve seen many old timers argue -water will never touch my buds!! Ok that’s cool by me. Ha but after trying it you realize - it’s a great idea. Would you eat unwashed fruit or make a salad without washing your veggies first??

Gotta split - you all have a good day!

I’ve done the hydrogen peroxide version and I’ve also tried the baking soda & lemon version too (not combined tho)

Think of how much shit was on our bud back in the day, no telling on pesticides too. Scary stuff.

Even if I never foliar spray a plant - I will still always wash the bud and I’m sure you will agree to that
Definitely going to wash mine!

I was reading up on Dr. Ziggys low and slow, but didn't see mention of what the optimum fridge and temp needed to be. Did I miss it?

I did this my very first grow. I am eager to try it again . I don’t think it did any harm so I’ll definitely try it again soon

This is how I dry my bud. First after trim, I place the stems right side up in a 5 gal bucket and let them sit in a frost free refrigerator for 10 days. Then I take the buds off and put in a paper bag, roll closed, and put back in fridge for another 10 days. Then I put them in storage with a hygrometer. I check every day and if the humidity is over 65%, then I leave the container open for a few hours. Otherwise, I check it and put a boveda Pak for 62%. once it reaches 62% on the hygrometer, then it is ready to smoke. On edit: I forgot to say this method helps retain the colors, the taste and the potency of the bud. The last photos show what it looks like after.
The first two are of the last harvest, which didn’t produce as well because it was so cold in the basement.

I just harvested my first crop on Sunday. This is my favorite top. I bud washed everything with Hydrogen Peroxide, then lemon juice and baking soda, followed by a double rinse. Props to AdamInCo for the washing technique.

Glad to see people embracing this and posting results . I can’t wait to try it again

I'm definitely going to do this in a week or two. What is the desired fridge temp and humidity? Right now my fridge is at 38 degrees and 38 humidity.
That will work.
