Looking for best strains for pain relief!

Hello All!

I know there are some older posts on this subject, but I thought it best to ask again with all the new strains out there. I am in desperate need of strains good for pain relief. Nothing is worse than having to watch a loved one suffer like I am right now. My husband had to stop taking NSAIDs due to medication being prescribed for AFIB and now he is pretty much bedridden with pain. I know I can Google this question and find results on the subject, but I want to hear from people who are smoking with the intent of easing their pain and hear from them what works best.

CCO, FECO or Tenures
You can find strains of these that are good for pain.
I make my own CCO and tentures, but I bet you can buy them in a legal state

Sorry to sound like a dumby but what are CCO, FECO and Tenures? I do the growing, my husband does the consuming. I did notice that you seem to be into Dos-Si-Dos. I grew some last summer, he just finished off the last of that but did say that seemed to help with the pain. Anything I get right now is going to have to come from a dispensary....don't have time to wait for a plant to grow! I am in VA where medical and recreational are legal. Right now we only have a medical retail market but come this summer there will be a legal recreational retail market too.

I use two types of strains for my pain relief.

Black Indica from Crop Kings will reduce most of my pain by at least 50% and strains like Cafe Racer or Apple Betty will reduce the pain simply by the fact the pain is in the background and I don't much notice it !

Some find a combination of CBD and THC works wonders...

Cheers

Can you still function on the Cafe Racer and Apple Betty or is it a couch lock high? We run a business that requires us to be on call 24/7 so being couch-locked is not a viable option.....also, he is going stir crazy from being stuck in the house already.

CCO - Concentrated Cannabis Oil,
FECO - Fully Extracted Cannabis Oil
Tentures - CCO or FECO mixed with 190 Proof Alcohol

No couch lock, both are heavily sativa leaning so function, of a sort, is possible :bongrip:

And they are both creative/motivating, no bad moods or sitting around allowed

Cheers

I mix my concentrated cannabis oil with my favourite body lotion & apply to my aches
About 1 1/2 grams to 2 grams in a 600 ml bottle
Stopped wasting my money on useless glucosamine & shark cartilage pills

Others that tried it say it is non-psychoactive

I have been using prescription lidocaine.... cream and patches and diclofenac patches. Have you tried any of these and if so, what do you think works better.....cannabis oil or the things mentioned above?

I stay away from prescribed drugs as much as as possible
Voltaren is just ibuprofen in a tube mixed with cream
I Try to use as few pain pills as possible

Born with fused vertebrae, wore my knees & hands out doing Autobody for 26 years
Move tons of snow in winter & burn firewood for additional heat

Rolled a car over top another car when I was younger & a couple of T-bones
Rode motorcycles most my life so I have a few aches

Broke my toe about 4-5 weeks ago, slapped some cream on it & only ate 2 pain pills
1 the day it happened and another after blowing snow for two hours
A bunch of other things but don’t want to bore you with my problems

I liked the strain Tropicanna banana for pain & is on the sativa leaning side so it won’t burn you out

Ouch! I know from first hand experience pain like that can be debilitating. A few month after I had my daughter I started having really bad back pain and weakness of the legs but wouldn't go to the doctor because I didn't have insurance. Worst mistake ever. I finally woke up one morning and could only take about 10 steps before my legs would give out and started retaining urine. At that point I went to the ER and within hours they were doing emergency surgery for Cauda Equina Syndrome. On top of having them remove a huge section of 2 disc in my lumbar spine they had to remove some of the vertebra too. Due to the nerve damage from that I have had to have my plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel released and bladder surgery. I currently need my lumbar spine fused but won't do it because there is not enough vertebrae to screw into so they want to graft bone from my hip to my spine so they have something to screw into. They said I would pretty much be bedridden for 3 months and 6 months to a year for a full recovery. If I would have sought medical treatment sooner I probably would have still needed the back surgery but not all of the other stuff that followed after......nor all the nerve damage.

I would think with him watching me go through all of that he wouldn't neglect his issues. He won't touch an opiate for anything. He has been eating NSAIDs like they are candy for a long time now. I guess maybe this is a good thing he can't take them anymore because he is finally going to get an MRI done so we can figure out what is wrong and hopefully get it fixed because taking the amount of NSAIDs he was taking can't be good for you. It just sucks you can't walk into the doctor say I am in pain, they run the necessary test and get you taken care of. You have to first go see the primary care doctor, who refers you to get an MRI. Then return to the primary care doctor to go over the MRI, then get a referral to the orthopedic doctor. Then due to insurance BS, they will probably tell him he has to do therapy and injections to see if they help before they will approve any type of surgery......so it will probably be a few months before he gets any relief.

Here is three to consider off the top of my head.

Harlequin is a sativa marijuana strain renowned for its reliable expression of CBD. This strain provides clear-headed effects and the ability to relax without sedation or intoxication. Harlequin is a descendant of Colombian Gold, a Nepali indica, and Thai and Swiss landrace strains. Harlequin's high levels of CBD make this strain one of the most effective strains for the treating pain and anxiety, as CBD can counteract THC’s paranoia while amplifying its painkilling properties. This strain features flavors that range from earthy musk to sweet mango.

Headband, also known as simply "HB," is a hybrid marijuana strain and love-child of cannabis’ power couple, OG Kush and Sour Diesel. The smooth, creamy smoke is accented by flavors of lemons and diesel while the long-lasting effects are great for pain relief, helping you to relax, and to combat elevated stress levels. Many report that the effects create a slight pressure around the crown of their head and feels as though they are wearing a headband. The effects have been known to come on slow, so pace yourself with this potent hybrid.

Granddaddy Purple is an indica marijuana strain that goes by many different names, including "Grand Daddy Purp," "Granddaddy Purps," "GDP," and "Grandaddy Purple Kush." Popularized in 2003 by Ken Estes, Granddaddy Purple (or GDP) is a famous indica cross of Mendo Purps, Skunk, and Afghanistan. Other people claim it is Big Bud x Purple Urkle. Either way, this California staple inherits a complex grape and berry aroma from its Purps and Ghani heritage. GDP flowers bloom in shades of deep purple, a contrasting backdrop for its snow-like dusting of white crystal resin. Its potent effects are clearly detectable in both mind and body, delivering a fusion of cerebral euphoria and physical relaxation. While your thoughts may float in a dreamy buzz, your body is more likely to find itself fixed in one spot for the duration of GDP’s effects. Granddaddy Purple is typically pulled off the shelf for consumers looking to combat pain, stress, insomnia, appetite loss, and muscle spasms. GDP blesses growers with massive yields which are ready for harvest following a 60 day flowering time indoors.

Stay safe and grow well my friend,
Tok..

I am going to have to check out a dispensary for right now but it is about time for me to order some seeds so I will keep all of this in mind. I actually have some Sour D right now from my outdoor plants from last summer. He is not a fan of the way it tastes so he hasn't been smoking it but I will let him know to try it for his pain to see what happens.

Do you have any experience growing any of these strains? I need something that can handle some abuse.....I am still on the novice side of growing. Also, mold resistant too.....We have high heat and humidity in the summer.

Wedding Cake is one they have in dispensaries that's supposed to be a go-to for pain and a good one for novice growers. Genetics are Girl Scout Cookies x Cherry Pie if memory serves.

THC is better for neuropathic pain, while CBD can help if the pain is caused by inflammation pressing on nerves.

That said, having a little bit of CBD with a mostly THC strain (and vice versa) can help potentiate the main cannabinoids.

CBG strains are something else you should have a look at for pain. Like CBD there is no intoxicating effect with it and since CBG is the Mother of all cannabinoids, you get a little bit of everything in those types of plants. Plus that cannabinoid is supposed to be the best in topicals.

Everyone's body is different in how it responds to the various cannabinoids and, maybe at least as important, the terpines and flavonoids in different strains so the best approach might be to sample a bunch of things at the dispensary in small amounts and then grow the one or two the work the best.

I grow 3, a THC, a CBD, and a CBG dominant strain, each with very little of the others in them and then can mix 'n match combinations depending on the effect I'm looking for.

Hey Lovie, sorry to hear bought your husbands.

Every person and strain will have a slightly different effect. Every different pain will require a different treatment. I can't sleep after smoking Thai, my uncle falls asleep after 2 hits, my wife gets a headache from it. You need to experiment to see what works and what to avoid.

I don't remember what strains you just grew. What worked, didn't work, or made it worse? Do-si-do is indica dominant around 70/30 with a lot of citrus terpenes. Mid 20s to 30% THC but vary low CBD. If you can, find something similar at the dispensary. Adding some CBD through the strain or separate like a gummy may help with the pain and take out some of the couch lock.

Everyone different so kind of have to experiment some too, as some CBD helps some folks along with CBG a newer one that works for some folks. Some folks a mix better and others one or the other works best. Same goes for methods of intake be it smoking/edible/oils, as there is so many different kinds of pain. And some of us not wired the same ;) so what works for me may not do squat for someone else.
good luck with it :peace: :passitleft: :Namaste:

All I have left is Sour D from the outside plants.....which turned out amazing. Everyone loves it but him......well, he likes the high from it but not the taste. He hasn't smoked any of it since he stopped taking the NSAIDs so maybe he can learn to deal with the taste if it helps his pain.

Here is a pic from a Sour D bud from my outside plant. I was considering entering it in the Bud of the Month contest but couldn't get a good pic.

Thank you, that is good to know. I believe his is caused my inflammation or a bad disk compressing the nerves but won't know for sure until he gets his MRI done. My husband is a heavy smoker and has a high tolerance so not worried about it being too strong.....just worried about the type of high. He doesn't like being couch locked.

There are other ways of getting the benefits than smoking. In fact, when you light something on fire it destroys a huge percentage of the goodies. So, if it works for his pain but he doesn't like the taste, maybe have a look at putting it in capsules like with BioBombs -SweetSue.

In that case you'd be looking for mostly sativa dominant (as opposed to indica dominant) strains which you will find in the strain description. Even products at the dispensary will likely be labeled as to their dominant type.
