Lighting Help

Hello. I’m on my first grow and have a question about lighting. I bought a complete VIVOSUN kit that came with a vs1000 light with a fan integrated into the middle. The plants have been doing great but I read an article that was saying the vs1000 might not be ideal as the plants grow more especially in flowering. It recommended a vs2000 for a 2x4 tent so I got one. However, I think I misread because I thought they were talking about a 2x2x4 tent, which is what I have, and I think they were just giving the base dimensions for a 2x4 tent. So now I think I’ve got too much light in the small tent. I also had to put an AeroWave fan in there because the vs2000 doesn’t have an integrated fan and the whole thing seems very jam packed now. The temperature has also gone up by about 5 degrees since I swapped the lights out. So I wanted to know if the vs2000 is too much light for a 2x2x4 tent and if I should go back to the vs1000. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wish I could say that I have too much light for my vegetating area or the flowering tent. However, I would not be satisfied unless I had lights pumping out as much or a tad bit more than the sun:).

Do you know if your light is adjustable? Some are and the gardener can drop the level down to 80% of full which would solve your issue if it really is too much plus it helps the light to last longer.

As for the temperature those extra couple of degrees could come in handy during the winter if the tent gets too cold. Do you know the max temperature that the tent gets with the lights on and the temperature it drops down to when all the lights are off?

Otherwise it is possible that the same ventilation system that is used for filtering the air when the plants are in full bloom to also move the heated to somewhere else. I have controlled the tent's temperature just by partially opening the door. There is no law or rule that says the door has to be zipped up every minute that the gardener is actively working with the plants.

You're right in the middle between the 1000 and the 2000, the optimum would be between 30-40 watts per sq foot. As @SmokingWings said (and nailed it), if the 2000 is dimmable, take it down to about 75% (or even 50% during veg). Use the door to contol heat or add an exhaust fan near the top of the tent to bring the temps down.

I’ve got it all linked through the Vivosun app which allows me to control the light intensity. I was running the vs1000 at 75% but dropped this one down to 50% and have the lights set about 20” from the plants. I’m currently running 18/6 for on/off.

Thanks. I’ve got it all linked through the Vivosun app which allows me to control the light intensity. I currently have it on the vegetative setting and running at 50% about 20” from the plants. I had the previous vs1000 light running at 75% from the same distance. The increase in heat just really concerned me which made me start thinking I might have overdone it with the new light. The fan also seems to be very powerful even on the lowest setting. I guess I’m just second guessing if I had a good setup and installed things meant for a larger tent.
