LEDs loose their advantage in large spaces. Still good to use just more cost and the benefits of lower heat don't matter because you have to have big air exchange anyway.
For larger areas do not use concentrated smaller focused hoods. Use large hoods which radiate over larger areas. You will find that all the reviews will point you at smaller hoods which focus the light better for like a 5x5 tent. That is great for a small space. For a large space you either want a large hood or a Gavita (or one of the knock offs) that are going to disperse the light over a larger area.
These guys have the most advanced bulb on the market and the ballast and hood are hard to beat. This is what all the pros use in Holland and through much of the world. GAVITA Holland | Home
Gavita. There bulbs is 2 generations minimum more advanced than the rest (which you can use in other hoods...but the ballast design with no cables is very valuable. Hydro farm has a knock off that rates as good these days...but Gavita is the best and has changed the way big farmers do lighting.
The reflectors are replaceable which is nice. They go bad after not long and people don't replace the hood and get lowered performance even of you clean them. The reflector in Gavita hood is designed to be replaced.
So they are spec'd I think to 4x6 but the were designed to be put in a row in a large room with overlapping coverage. You see them being used at wider spacing. I would space them min 5 foot on center. Needs probably 30" to canopy. They get brighter and grow better which means hotter (and the bulbs last much longer and are cheaper in the long run). You need to make sure you venting well but that is required. I run my Gavita bulb on a Solistek ballast that I can over drive to well over 1000W and yes it gets hotter but not so much I can't manage in a small 5x5.
So you are 5' wide right? I would maybe consider a single row 5' on center... that is a lot but you will be happy.
I believe spaced sideways not back to back...
5 ft on center really is going to be fairly standard unless you go old school with supper big hoods.
Gotta spend money to make money. These new hoods with the ballast on the hood and no cable have the draw back of the ballast is hot too so in smaller spaces not so great. I have my ballast outside of my tent as I am not using their ballast and hood.
But in your case you can't get the ballast out of the room really. Maybe you can but likely this is a setup where all that heat is inside no matter how you do it.
Now if you can get the ballasts out of the room by drilling some holes and mounting them outside then you may want to consider a more standard reflector. Again these were made for large scale large rooms where the cable is a mess of problems and the ballast are going to be inside the room no matter what. It is a far superior design for large scale operations.
