Light upgrade

Don't know all your variables, strains or anything other than what you just said, so it's hard to say. It should definitely increase,, so will the heat so make sure you have good plans for ventilation.

4x4 grow tent.....blueberry from clones....6 inch fan with carbon filter and fox farm nutes

Yeah man you'll love the new light. Rock it! Are you going to veg with the new light or have you done that with the cfls? A 600 is perfect for a 4x4...

getting ready to switch over to 12/12 so was wondering if its worth the extra expense. i was wonder about the MH instead of t8s also. looking at a dimmable interchangeable setup. any advice is greatly appreciatedbtw lol

I veg with both, I have an eight bar t5 that I like, but sometimes and in the past I've used a 400MH. They run a bit warmer so the t5 let's me get nice and close. Typically, when I look you can buy the combo MH and HPS lights cheaper, as a package, then singular. I wouldn't spend the money if you're flipping soon but maybe in the future... Sometimes that extra heat from the MH is helpful,, other times it's a hassle. CFLs veg good plants, cheaply: I keep my clones and babies under an old shop t12 :)

You can get a light, ballast and reflector for less than $200, so I would say it's worth it. That's a budget setup, a nice reflector will increase yields. An ounce per plant really isn't much. I would expect you to be able to pull 3 ounces per plant with 4 plants in that tent if you environment and nutes are dialed in.

ive been looking at a apollo horticulture 600 watt dimmable that accepts both types of bulbs. is that a reputable company

Apollo is budget, entry level stuff made in China. It is what I would choose if I only had $200 to spend on a setup. Although in a 4x4 I don't seeing you needing the dimming feature. On a 1000 watt ballast with an aircooled hood in a 4x4 75% is the sweet spot.

i may change the tent at a later time ao thats why i opted for the dimmable, and im also going to be using it to veg, unless that would be a waste of time ? im new at this so any and all help is appreciated.

Change the tent how? 600 watts is good for a 4x4, vegging or bloom. If you went with the 1000 watt dimmable you would have the option to use 500, 750 or 1000 watts. Might be a smart move because it gives you more options for a little bit more coin.

That's fine, forget about the future, you have a 4x4 tent now, and regardless of what you do in the future you will still have the 4x4 tent and need a light for it. So for flexibility we definitely want something that HPS and MH. I would recommend dimmable. You can pick up the Apollo kit in 1000 watt for $230. If you want to get a decent setup I would use a Phantom ballast ($200) with a nice Sun Systems Blockbuster reflector ($200). Then you buy Hortilux MH and HPS bulbs (about $130) That's my personal opinion of a decent dimmable MH/HPS. But that also brought you from $230 to $530.

You can go 600 watt if you like, they are good lights and are the most efficient when you look at lumens per watt. The only reason I suggested a 1000 dimmable is because you have that flexibility to get more light at the flip of a switch and I believe you could run it at 75% no problem in your tent which should give you improved yield over a 600 watt light.

i was worried about heat with a 1000 hps. how much more heat does it create than a 600 watt hps. ive heard that heat can be a constant issue with a big light and little tent. whats your input on that? what am i looking for ventilation of a 1000 hps? id like to get decent eqiupment but i dont have a huge budget, but i got some. amd where im new at it the last thing i want is to burn my tent down lmao

btw i do thank u for taking the time and letting me pick ur brain on this....i live in the middle of nowhere so thats why im trying to get as much advice as i can before i start ordering everything thats shiny and pretty lol.

No worries man. It really depends on your budget. Can you afford to buy a quality setup? I have a saying "People rarely regret spending the extra money to buy quality equipment." Do I think you can run 1000 watts in your tent? Possibly, I know I have seen grows on here where guys can't manage the heat in a 4x4 with 1000 watts. But what appeals to me about going 1000 watt dimmable isn't really the 1000 watt side of it, it's that 75% setting. I think that's really the sweet spot for HID in a 4x4 tent. And if you can't handle the heat at 75% then you can go down to 50% or 60% depending on the ballast. It's that flexibility. We know a 600 watt light will work in the application and be manageable when it comes to heat, but you never have the option to get more light out of it.

Ventilation I like Can Fan setups. The Pro Series has 3 speeds so you don't need a speed controller. You could go with the 8" setup and that thing will pull 860 CFM, so it is definitely up to the task of cooling your tent.

There are a ton of options out there and it always seems like everything is just incrementally more expensive, so you can spend some money real quick. I think it's best for you to figure out what you want to spend and then that will dictate what you can run.

thanx for the input. i think i am going to go with the 1000 hps dimmable like u said.....sounds perfect and with the fan u mentioned sounds like it will be a rock solid setup...again thanks for ur time and i will post pics of my setup when done
