Just outside of Downtown, far from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the Williams family is cultivating what they hope will become America's next big consumer brand.

They're so confident in the new venture that they've invested millions of dollars into new processes, equipment designs and their increasingly popular product: legal marijuana.

"We're on the bleeding edge of a new developing industry," said Andy Williams, president and CEO of Medicine Man. "There are very few times in the history of the world where people have been able to do what I'm doing right now."

From its warehouse-turned weed dispensary, Medicine Man has emerged as a leader in Colorado's estimated $700 million marijuana market.

Last year alone, the first year recreational marijuana was sold in Colorado or anywhere in the country – Medicine Man's revenue nearly doubled from $9 million to $16 million. That places the budding firm in the top five of more than 600 marijuana dispensaries now operating in the state.

It's operations like Medicine Man that have opportunists in Ohio eager to strike.
