You have to go by what it draws from the wall outlet what type of led light is it your looking at..

There is not a direct relationship between LED's and HPS. Many of the LED suppliers grossly overstate the power of their LEDs. For example, something quoted as 300 watt LED my actually only be pulling 150 from the wall. The "blurple" LEDs are older technology. If I we're making the switch I'd stick to something in the "white light" 3000-3500 category. If you're using that style of LED, you may be able to reduce your power consumption in half.

Farside05 has a good point.. and just like i said its all dependent on what it draws from the wall plug say it says 250watt power draw its only a 250 watt led light but led companys claim its equivalent to a 400 watt hps and thats all bull crap to me.. pick a good brand that offers an amazing warranty those are pretty reputable lights to buy.. OPTIC LED GROW LIGHT which like what i have is awesome yes a good LED light is costly but well worth the money and power savings that come with it plus they offer a 5 yr warranty no hassles no bull... but if your looking at LED you have to go by what the wall power draw is to get the true growing wattages

I'd recommend using QB132 3500k if you want to go with LED. Wonderful results and top quality you can get on market. Amazon has a 4 pack for $132 if they are in stock. I use 12 panels in my 4x4 tent. It's DIY

In my city we have only Apollo brand or lushgrow cob LED and another brand but it's way out of my price range at the moment I'll post pictures I'm way out of my depth here so thanks alot for all your advice anymore is welcomed

Maybe try our SP 200, it is mainly for commercial growers, and you need only two of them (total 400w) to replace your 600w HPS. For your space 2.4x2.4m, you only need 12pcs to cover, which is around 2400w in total. Using the mostly advanced LED tech, and also have very great price.
For bigger area, more smaller unit will cover your space much better and you will get very good result.

None of these are worth the price ;)

How much HID do you have in that area?

Unless you use in the neighborhood of 1000w HID per m2 you want to swap HID and proper LED watt for watt, don't bother getting ''cheap'' LED it's not cheap in the long run, especially not if you already own a HID setup.

My optic4 led is well worth the price.. i had explosive growth and trichome development..

Depends on how much you paid for it, it's well ancient tech crammed in a small box ;)

Ancient tech? Its a led grow light with cree cobs in it what are talking about? In it was 550$ so not cheap!!! in works flawlessly and grows nice big buds covered in trichomes. Idk your point of downing someone else’s equipment when its an up to date light maybe look it up and read about it a lil bit ;) . FYI stop being a led light police sargent and worry about helping someone out specially saying those lights are worth the price let man choose what he likes n to be excited bout growing geez.

My experience. I bought an el cheapo X6 Cob light from Amazon, it claims to draw 1200 watts, but draws 450 watts, the lumens from this light match my HLG 100 board - which only draws 96 watts - talk about savings for Hydro. We have some of the highest hydro rates in N. America here - and by using the HLG board - my plants are happier and my wallet is too.

I haven't said anything about you, so unless you make or sell this product, how can you be offended?

All lights work, there's just a very big difference in quality, price and light to heat ratio.

I know the light you use and the components inside it, and that's why I correctly labelled it as ancient technology.

The COBs are $12 a piece :) And less than 100 lm/w AKA ancient tech.

Maybe you should read up on optoelectronics before attacking people for enlightning others about the age and efficacy of LED lights.

$550 for an Optic 4 is a very high price compared to other newer and better solutions on the market.

So it's not helpful knowing what not to spend your money on, and what you can actually expect from the many LEDs ???

If you want to believe in the marketing a company sends out it's your choice, but don't try to shut people up because they know about LED components and have the courtesy to pass this knowledge on.

Don't get mad at me because you bought overpriced gear...

Are you really advising people to just buy blindly and not care if they get value for money, or if they end up replacing a HID system with something inferior?

Around $200 for building a lamp like that, a lot less if you buy components/labour for 1000 lamps.

You're attacking me for giving my opinion, which is based on science and not my own personal feelings, so who's the bully here?

Considering that is about 8'x8', you will want to use 4 lights that cover a 4'x4' area for the best intensity over your canopy. As moderngroroom mentioned, you need to use the wattage at the wall to compare power draw, not the name in the title of the light as it can be misleading. Also, consider the light output (in umol/s) and the recommended footprint. You will want about 500W-650W in a 4x4 area (depending on PAR efficacy). The best bang for your buck in terms of light output and quality parts in my experience is the HLG-600H. It's a DIY kit. Draws around 600W at the wall and will cover up to a 5'x5' area. Lots of good options out there. Just do your research!

I wrote this guide on how to choose an LED grow light. It includes lots of good REAL information and not marketing jargon. I also made a condensed checklist of this guide. You can find that right here. Hope that helps!
