Just thought i would start up a little diary to record the progress of my small barrel grow under a 90W Henweit UFO LED grow light, i shall be updating it each time something new happens or when there are significant changes in the plant, any comments, questions and suggestions greatly accepted. So here goes
Recently i purchased some lovely Raspberry Cough and loved the smoke so much that i was inspired to do a small barrel grow to see what the results would be. After deciding on a Henweit 90W UFO LED due to the purchase cost, light output, and low electricity bills, my next purchase was a nice big 120ltr blue barrel (straight from supplier so it was new , no previous contents). I have drilled (well to be honest i used a knife) 3 holes into the top of the barrel lid to put the hanging chains through and the power cable. It took a bit of fiddling but eventually i managed to remove the plug, place all the cables through their relevant holes and replace the plug (what a chore that is nowerdays with these self sealed plugs).
I got some free complimentary seeds (2 x Power Africa and 1 x OG Kush)with my purchase so i have decided to grow them first to make sure the setup works, and as i work out all of the flaws (hopefully with the help of readers comments)I will be upgrading bits and pieces to perfect the setup ready for my Raspberry Cough.
The seeds were germinated in a washed out air rifle pellet tin, with 2 layers of moist tissue on the bottom, the seeds placed on top of that layer then another 2 layers of moist tissue placed on top. The tin was screwed shut and placed under my pillow to keep warm and dark for germination, here is one of the seeds germinated (OG Kush I Think)
The seeds have been planted into 10" plastic drainable plant pots and filled with a soil medium to grow in and placed into the barrel with the light suspended over head and the lid resting on some lengths of wood to create an air gap for the air to circulate. (Intake and exhaust fans will be added to the barrel today once i have made up the fan holders out of scrap wood and added the active carbon screen)
The seedlings will be left in the barrel (with regular watering) under the UFO LED on 18/3 light shifts. I shall be also constructing a staging platform for the pots to sit on to aid with moisture drainage and prevent root rot.
This is my brief introduction to the project all comments, queries and advice will be greatly accepted.
